YOUTH WELLNESS WORKER - Fond Du Lac, SK
APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR A FULL-TIME YOUTH WELLNESS WORKER FOR THE FOND DU LAC HEALTH CLINIC, ATHABASCA HEALTH AUTHORITY (AHA).
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY
Reporting directly to the Manager of Mental Health & Addictions, the Youth Wellness Worker is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of holistic health programs and services that promote healthy lifestyles for the youth of the communities and forming youth councils. This could include establishing links with youth, families and community to promote wellness and empower youth to assume a greater responsibility for their health and wellbeing through increased knowledge and skills. The Youth Worker will work under the guidance of Director of Community Services on matters related to the development, implementation and day-to-day operations of a Youth Suicide Prevention Program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure effective and efficient delivery of programs to youth, families and community members
Increase knowledge and awareness of the importance of suicide prevention of youth
Participate in crisis management and identify personal learning needs
Participate in creating the conditions known to be protective and utilize Elders to provide traditional teachings
Other related duties as assigned
CORE COMPETENCIES
Strong computer skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to facilitate groups for support and prevention and ability to participate in crisis intervention when situations arises
Ability to function as an effective team member; to work independently; in a self-motivated manner; and to understand and connect with the culture of youth
QUALIFICATIONS
Grade 12/GED
Basic Computer Skills
Two year sobriety and addiction free
Must successfully complete mandatory training program (ASIST, Safe talk and VTRA) within six months of hiring
Effective interpersonal communication skills
Self-motivated/self-directed
Ability to work flexible hours (after school and late evenings)
Fluency in the Denesuline language would be an asset
Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
Must be a resident from the Athabasca Region
