Position Summary:
The Kenhte:ke Child and Youth Wellness Worker will work collaboratively with members of the team, community and other programs to ensure all clients receive culturally responsive, client centered care; support clients to maintain their emotional, physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing; offer guidance and support to programs in the community; to encourage and build support with outside agencies for referral purposes and to build resources. This worker will be based primarily out of Quinte Mohawk School and will service Indigenous Children and Youth up to and including age 13 who are residing within the Territory of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
The Kenhte:ke Child and Youth Wellness Worker will manage a caseload and work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive support for elementary school aged students, including developing skills / strategies groups as needed to respond to the needs in the school.
They incorporate Indigenous worldviews, specifically Haudenosaunee knowledge and practices, into service delivery. They integrate culture, language revitalization and traditional healing practices with evidence-based treatment models and strive for culturally appropriate care, in a "Two-eyed Seeing Approach". They prioritize their inherited and gathered cultural knowledge OR show a strong willingness to learn Haudenosaunee ways of being, actively promoting anti-oppressive principles and cultural ethics, while avoiding cultural extraction.
Reporting:
The Kenhte:ke Child and Youth Wellness Worker is directly responsible to the CYW Team Lead and Enyonkwa'nikonhriyo:hake Program Manager, working primarily out of Quinte Mohawk School.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in social work, or related field and a minimum of 2 years' experience direct counselling
Experience in a social justice services environment preferred
Diploma in a relevant field with extensive relevant experience may be considered
Experience working in the field of children and youth mental health, outreach and/or crisis capacity an asset
Must be willing to work toward certification with the Indigenous Certification Body of Canada (ICBOC) within the first year of employment
Ability to register with a relevant professional body (e.g., College of Social Workers or equivalent) is preferred
Experience working in Indigenous communities, is preferred
Must provide a clear VSC (documentation will be required if successful applicant)
Clear abstract, valid G license, own vehicle and insurance (documentation will be required)
First Aid and CPR an asset (must be willing to take the training)
Flexible schedule to accommodate after hours programming as required and attend meetings or training
