This hands-on supervisory position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of development and operations of the youth volunteers and volunteer areas within Westside. This includes building relationships with youth volunteers and help them develop a healthy lifestyle by providing quality recreation volunteer opportunities in the Westside Recreation Centre community.
Responsibilities:
Development and implementation of a quality Youth Volunteer Program
Provide safe, fun, and meaningful volunteer opportunities in a variety of areas such as sport programs, childcare, leisure ice, climbing wall, aquatics, birthday parties, and day camps
To recruit, train, and supervise responsible youth volunteers
To complete administrative tasks including scheduling, data entry, filing, and on-boarding/off-boarding paperwork
Build positive relationships with youth and youth volunteers at Westside
Maintain regular, professional communication with volunteers to keep them informed of upcoming opportunities
To provide performance appraisals to volunteers
To provide assistance if a volunteer is unable to attend their shift
Monitor and anticipate volunteer needs within the facility
Communicate with area supervisors to identify volunteer needs in all areas
Take on a supervisory role within the Children and Youth department to provide coverage, staff supervision, and team collaboration when required
To be actively involved with the risk management of department areas including Safe Work Procedures, inspections, and WHMIS

Current working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Office 365

Physical/Psychological Demands:
Ability to work in a fast-paced noisy environment
Ability to work inside as well as outside when required
Ability to lift 20-25lbs on a daily basis
The successful candidate must hold high ethical standards as they are working with a vulnerable population and has access to confidential information
Qualifications:
Current Alberta approved First Aid training agency - CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid
Clear Vulnerable Sector Search
All applicants must be a minimum 18 years of age
Experience supervising and training youth staff/volunteers
Post-secondary education in a related field is considered an asset
High 5 is considered an asset
Perfect Mind Software knowledge is considered an asset
Employment Term:
This is a year-round, part time position, reporting to the Children's Programs & Camps Supervisor
+ September - April : This position will work approximately 15-20 hours a week in the evening and weekends.
+ May - August: This position will work approximately 37.5 hours a week including daytime, evening and weekend shifts.
Remote working not available for this position.
