Job Description

The Learning Disabilities Association of Toronto District (LDATD) is a chapter of the Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario (LDAO) serving the amalgamated City of Toronto. LDATD is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating a society in which people with learning disabilities (LDs) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are able to achieve the full expression of their intellect and abilities.

LDATD is seeking a dynamic

Youth Volunteer Board Member-

to represent youth voices and experiences at the governance level. We are looking for someone with direct or indirect lived experience with LD and/or ADHD. A background in Education, Psychology or Social Work, or other relevant experience or skills are assets. This is a great opportunity for youth to learn about governance, how the Board of Directors operates, improve communication and other skills sets. Board members take an active role in governance and are expected to:

Commit to the vision, mission and values of LDATD Make a commitment of two years Commit to 11 Board meetings per year (in the evenings) and to participate in one committee or working group Support the fundraising of the organization
The Board follows a policy governance model and focuses on supporting the organization with oversight in the following key areas:

Finance Human Resources Risk management Fundraising IT/cyber/privacy/web/internet presence Governance/strategic planning
To further our goals as an organization, we do the following work in the community

Provide programs and services for approximately 19,000 children, youth, adults and seniors annually. Provide written and verbal information about LDs and ADHD. Provide referral services to professionals, educational resources and supports. Operate a resource centre offering books, videos and materials. Provide support, guidance and advocacy to our clients. Undertake public awareness activities. Publish an e-newsletter for members and stakeholders. Present to community groups, schools, professional development days, conferences and seminars. Hold free public events regarding various aspects of learning disabilities. Provide direct programs: social skills, keyboarding, assistive technology training, tutoring, mindfulness, youth groups, camps, workshops, seniors programs, support groups, settlement programs, employment support programs, youth recreational programs
