BGC Weston-Mount Dennis Club is looking for enthusiastic, energetic and dedicated individuals to work in our Youth Summer Camp Programs. Your role as a Camp Counselor will be to provide a fun, safe and supportive environment for program participants aged 13 to 17 years.
Youth programs being offered this year include sports, art expression, leadership and girls/female-identifying programs. Experience all of these is not required but would be ideal to be diverse you would mainly be responsible for providing leadership during these different activities. The programs we will be launching this summer are: She's Empowered/Boys2Me, BGC Rhythm & Flow, Battle of the Sports, Next Gen Council Committee.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, organize and lead a group of youth in a group setting
Ensure that you are creating a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants
Create and facilitate fun, creative, and inclusive activities for all participants
Ensure that all equipment and supplies are in safe working condition
Complete appropriate administrative tasks in a timely manner (attendances, incident reports, program plans, etc)
Developing and planning programs for youth between the ages of 13 to 17 years of age
Be comfortable working with some youth with exceptionalities and special needs
Ensuring programs are safe, age appropriate, non-competitive, inclusive, innovative and skilled based in nature
Help to ensure the safety and security of the members and assist in responding to critical incidents as outlined in the Club's policies and procedures
Participate in staff training and orientation sessions
Ensure the safety and supervision of participants, always, by strictly following guidelines and procedures
Dealing with conflicts and behaviour-management immediately using corrective techniques as discussed in training
Report to and takes direction from Program Managers and Supervisor
Assist in other Club wide events as needed
Maintain professional relationships with peers, members, volunteers, parents and other Club members
Attend regularly scheduled meeting
Qualifications:
Must meet all "Canada Summer Jobs" requirements, including:
+ Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
+ Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*.
+ Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
Minimum high-school diploma required. University or college students are encouraged to apply
Experience working with youth ages 13+
Strong skills in one or more of the following areas: sports, arts, swimming, outdoor/indoor recreation, education, health and nutrition
Strong supervision and program planning skills
Good decision making and problem-solving skills
Current First Aid/CPR-C Certification (or acquire before your start date)
Police Reference Check (to be completed upon hiring)
HIGH FIVE - Principles of Health Child Development training is an asset
Valid Driver's License is a strong asset
Experience with music, art, dance
Experience with Facilitating workshops; Implementing and executing programs.
Experience with individual with exceptionalities and special needs is an asset
