The Youth Outreach Worker will provide oversight to child/youth ministries programs. Give focused attention to strengthen and grow the programs and attend to the spiritual growth and development of the youth

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Children & Youth Programming

\xc2\xb7 Contribute to the spiritual development of youth and their families by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate attitudes and behaviors.

\xc2\xb7 Create a weekly welcoming and inclusive space for community youth through Wednesday Program and Friday messy church.

\xc2\xb7 Implement and supervise a March Break Camp (variety of themes).

\xc2\xb7 Follow up with youth and maintain contact to build relationships and establish active links with the corps and its mission and ministries.

\xc2\xb7 Run Sunday School with Orange Curriculum.

\xc2\xb7 Yearly offer Sunday School classes.

\xc2\xb7 Chaperone Children & Youth to Pine Lake (i.e., Fuse, holiday camp, teen camp, Mom & tots, gospel arts camp & any other camps.

\xc2\xb7 Work in partnership and with oversight from the Community & Family Services Coordinator to plan and implement programming for children and youth in the community.

\xc2\xb7 Plan, supervise, implement, and participate in regular events primarily focused on youth and their families with the goal of creating fun, fellowship, and outreach (e.g., Christmas assistance, Camps, Red Cap, Vacation bible school, food programs, after-school programs, etc.)

\xc2\xb7 Assist with community and family service ministry when needed and with outreach programs for youth.

\xc2\xb7 Interact with community partners as necessary to seek resources and services for youth ministries.

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrate keen interest in connecting young families to Grande Prairie Community Church through outreach programs and relationship building.

\xc2\xb7 Work alongside Corps Officer(s) to prepare and deliver children and youth worship services, and devotionals, for both the senior corps and for youth events on a semi regular basis.

\xc2\xb7 Contribute to the spiritual development of children/youth and their families within the church and community by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate attitudes and behaviors.

\xc2\xb7 In consultation with leadership, seek and implement quality discipleship programs for Sunday school, community outreach programs, and youth discipleship programs.

\xc2\xb7 Regularly assess effectiveness and make recommendations for change as needed.

\xc2\xb7 Support and participate in Divisional youth events.

Volunteers

\xc2\xb7 Recruit, supervise, orientate, support, and train volunteer leaders for youth programs in partnership with the Corps Officer.

\xc2\xb7 May develop strategies and recommendations for volunteer development.

\xc2\xb7 Deal with volunteer complaints and incident reports.

\xc2\xb7 Prepare, post, and maintain all volunteer schedules for those supervised in accordance with operational requirements ensuring adequate coverage for all program functions.

\xc2\xb7 Ensure completion of police checks for volunteers, statement of applicant for work with children and youth forms, and online abuse prevention training.

Administration

\xc2\xb7 Prepare and maintain written records/logs of activities, including activity reports and statistical information.

\xc2\xb7 Design and draft promotional material that highlights various programs provided by The Salvation Army Grande Prairie Community Church subject to supervisory approval.

\xc2\xb7 May participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the Youth Programs.

Communication

\xc2\xb7 Communicate in an empathetic manner with families, and staff.

\xc2\xb7 Inform the Corps Officer /Community Ministries Officer and CFS Manager regarding any concerns or issues in a timely manner.

Health and Safety

\xc2\xb7 Maintain program storage areas (e.g., updating, safety, organizing, etc.).

\xc2\xb7 Seek out continual education in food safety and health standards, including maintaining Safe Food Handling Certification.

\xc2\xb7 Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army\'s health and safety policies and procedures.

\xc2\xb7 Ensure compliance with all COVID-19 protocols and requirements.

Perform other work-related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

*NOTE: For some jobs, you may be required to provide validated educational documentation.

  • Completion of formal post-secondary/college diploma of 2 academic years in related field of study, Children/Youth work and/or ministry
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience working with youth and youth programming.
  • Understanding of children and youth, and associated needs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of working with the marginalized.
  • Respect and understanding in working with different cultures and ethnicities.
  • Experience in program creation and implementation an asset
  • Proficiency with social media and Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Workspace.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and participate as an active team member in a cooperative team-oriented atmosphere.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability.
  • Attentive listening skills for the purpose of supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution.
\xc2\xb7 Participate in mandatory orientation training including on-line abuse prevention certification
  • Valid Alberta Class \xe2\x80\x9c5\xe2\x80\x9d Driver\'s License, a current copy of a Driver\'s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Understand, support and be able to communicate and model the Mission, Values, Doctrines, and policies of The Salvation Army in Canada.
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
DAYS and HOURS of work: Monday through Sunday 40 hours a week.
