Boys and Girls Clubs of the Foothills has been dedicated to supporting local children and youth since 1994. With multiple locations across southern Alberta, we offer a variety of programs that cater to children aged 12 months to 18 years, including licensed daycares, after-school programs, summer activities, and leadership opportunities for teens.
Summary
Reporting to the Team Lead, while working with each member of the Youth Services team to deliver high quality services at the BGC of The Foothills - Lethbridge Youth Centre, you will be responsible for assisting with all activities and programs related needs for youth aged 11-18. The Youth Leader ensures the excellence of program delivery by volunteers and practicum students. As a Youth Leader at Boys and Girls Clubs of the Foothills, you will play a vital role in fostering a safe and engaging environment for youth. This position is essential in delivering educational programs and activities that promote personal growth and development among participants.
Responsibilities
Supervise, engage and help manage youth and volunteers in all aspects of the program delivery.
Work with youth to ensure we are meeting their specific needs and providing them with ongoing club support.
Provide positive mentorship to all youth in the programs at BGC of The Foothills - Lethbridge Youth Centre. Provide resources, supports, and crisis intervention to youth who access our services.
Assist in planning programs and activities suitable to youths needs.
Lead activities and various youth programs.
Assist in promoting youth-related programs through social media, video, outreach, and volunteer fairs.
Adhere to all club policies and procedures.
Plan and implement engaging activities that promote learning and personal development.
Provide guidance and support to youth in various programs.
Foster a positive environment that encourages participation and inclusivity.
Collaborate with team members to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding program updates.
Assist in the evaluation of program effectiveness and participant progress.
Minimum Requirements
Some post-secondary education in a social and/or educational and/or youth-related field.
Strong commitment to young people and an understanding of the factors affecting their lives.
Ability to provide reliable support to young people in times of stress and act with integrity.
Good organizational and leadership skills.
An accepting and non-authoritarian approach.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Experience working with children or youth in a group setting.
Patience, Tolerance and flexibility.
A sense of adventure and willingness to try new things.
Ability to treat young people's concerns with respect, tact, and sensitivity, whilst always being aware of the limits that are required by confidentiality and the necessary professional boundaries.
A great deal of resilience and energy
Training such as suicide and crisis intervention, first response. etc. is an asset but can be provided.
CPR/First Aid and a class 4 drivers license would be an asset.
Strong communication and Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with youth, parents, and staff.
Knowledge of educational practices or youth development principles is an asset.
Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting young people.
