Youth in Transition Worker

Full-time, Term until March 31, 2026



It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.



The Youth In Transition Worker (Anti-Human Trafficking) is accountable for delivering culturally relevant and trauma- informed support services to Inuit youth transitioning out of human trafficking situations or exploitation. This role involves developing individualized support plans, connecting youth with necessary resources, and promoting safety, healing, and well-being. The Youth in Transition Worker is responsible for maintaining confidentiality, respecting cultural practices, and adhering to program policies and procedures while ensuring that services are delivered with compassion, empathy, and a commitment to the values and principles of the Alluriarniq Program. The worker is also accountable for documenting all interactions and services provided, participating in ongoing training, and actively contributing to program development and evaluation.



Key responsibilities of the position include:



Manage a caseload of active clients. Develop and maintain rapport, trust, and ethical relationships with clients in order to support them on their healing journey. Conduct comprehensive, age-appropriate assessments of needs and risks; develop collaborative safety, care, and goal plans that respect youth voice and choice while complying with legal obligations under Ontario law. Ensure youth clients are supported in understanding their rights to privacy, confidentiality, and consent, including the limits of confidentiality in cases involving duty to report under the Child, Youth and Family Services Act. Respect the unique legal status of youth aged 16-17 as outlined by the CYFSA, including voluntary youth service agreements and transition planning supports up to age 24. Facilitate safe and effective connections to services, resources and supports, including (but not limited to): Inuit Elders and community activities, legal services, health care, NIHB, social assistance, mental health and wellness services, addictions treatment, housing, parenting programs, pre- and post-natal care, early years programs, food security, education and training, and employment services. Support reconnection with family and community where safe and desired, including youth-specific cultural and land-based programs and Land Claim Organization enrollment. Provide consistent emotional regulation support, psychoeducation, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution appropriate to youth development stages. Respond appropriately and in a timely manner to crisis situations; carry out crisis stabilization, service delivery, and client contact in a timely and professional manner. Participate in case planning and other CAS-related case conferencing; actively contribute to safety plans, service plans, care plans, and transition plans. Advocate for clients, encourage and support them to exercise their rights and responsibilities, and assist them in overcoming barriers to receiving the programs and services they need. Build capacity of clients to advocate for themselves to advance their self-determination and wellbeing. Offer advocacy and accompaniment for youth navigating systems such as the child welfare system, Ontario Court of Justice (youth division), health care, education, or indigenous services. Contribute and support the understanding of the importance of ongoing cultural learning and connection to community. Facilitate supportive networks of community who can assist individuals to achieve their goals and provide a safe and healthy environment. Organize and facilitate support groups for individuals who have experienced trauma as a result of their involvement with sex work and/or human trafficking. Integrate strength-based, culturally safe, ancestrally-affirming, decolonial and anti-oppressive practices in all service delivery. Deliver or coordinate youth peer support or group sessions addressing trauma, exploitation, or sex work in a safe, developmentally appropriate setting. Ensure every youth care plan includes safety protocols, ongoing risk assessments, and consent renewal appropriate to evolving capacities and legal requirements. Conduct safety assessments and create safety plans tailored to each youth's needs, offering immediate crisis intervention when required and supporting youth in accessing emergency services, shelters, or safe housing. Deliver services that integrate Inuit cultural values, traditions, and practices, while applying trauma-informed care principles to foster a supportive and healing environment for youth. Advocate for youth to access culturally relevant, trauma-informed, and accessible services including transitional housing, education, harm reduction, and LGBTQIA+ affirming care. Develop and maintain knowledge of provincial and federal youth benefit programs (e.g., Ontario Works Youth Stream, Youth Justice Programs, Youth-in-Transition Worker programs). Assist youth in accessing identification, OHIP, and legal aid supports critical for navigating adult systems. Maintain accurate, confidential records of client interactions, services provided, and progress made, ensuring all documentation meets the program's reporting requirements and privacy standards. Engage with community partners, stakeholders, and cultural resources to strengthen the program's support network. Actively participate in program development, evaluation, and training initiatives to enhance service delivery and address emerging needs.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Inuit culture, values, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional practices. Specialized knowledge in systems navigation and training in trauma care, mental health and wellness, gender based violence, child welfare, justice services, addictions and traditional healing practices is required. Strong written dan verbal communication tailored to youth and their supports. Demonstrates empathy, active listening and relationship building with youth, able to communicate difficult information with care and clarity, builds trust across diverse backgrounds and identities. Advocates for youth navigating legal, health, housing and social systems. Collaborates with community partners to reduce barriers to access, applies knowledge of Ontario youth-specific laws and policies (e.g. CYFSA), supports youth autonomy and self determination is decision making.



Deep understanding of Inuit culture, youth experiences and community history, ability to deliver culturally grounded and youth appropriate supports, applies decolonizing and anti-oppressive frameworks in everyday practice. Develop individualized service plans that reflect youth goals, strengths and needs. Coordinates services across housing, education, justice and health systems, ensures documentation is timely, accurate and secure. Identifies creative solutions to help youth overcome systemic barriers, experienced in working with youth experiencing trauma, addiction or violence.



Two plus years' experience in case management or youth support services is required. One plus years' experience working with Indigenous communities - specifically Inuit youth and families, mental health and addictions support for youth is required. One plus years experience with Youth advocacy and resource navigation (eg: education, housing, justice, child welfare), crisis intervention and conflict resolution with youth, knowledge of youth-specific legislation and services in Ontario.



Secondary School is required. Community College specialized coursework or training in youth support, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction preferred. SSW, Community and Justice Services, Addictions and Mental Health, Indigenous Community and Social Development is required. Undergraduate Degree, BSW, Psychology, Indigenous Studies, Sociology, Criminal Justice or Criminology, Health Sciences is preferred. First Aid and CPR, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, Crisis Intervention and Prevention is preferred.



Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, video-conferencing platforms and electronic records management applications is required. Clear Vulnerable Sector Check with results acceptable to TI is required. Willing to work flexible hours as needed to provide services and/or crisis response to community members is required.

Ability to speak Inuktitut is preferred. Availability to work evenings and weekends is preferred.



An acceptable combination of related education and work experience may be considered.



Salary and Benefits

Annual Salary between $50,000 and $52,000 TI offers a competitive total compensation package.
