Reporting to the Executive Director at the Nawican Friendship Centre, the Youth Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, and coordinating recreational, social, and educational programming designed to expose youth to positive experiences. This individual will be able to multitask, have familiarity with basic office procedures, and demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills. The Youth Coordinator will be working with youth aged 10 to 18 years from many different cultural backgrounds at the Nawican Bergeron Youth and Cultural Centre (NBYCC). The Youth Coordinator will encourage and support youth engagement in a safe and consistent environment for positive life skill development. This person will be team-oriented and possess a desire to promote healthy living and the spirit of the Friendship Centre Movement.
Key Responsibilities
Provide a safe and consistent environment for youth aged 10 to 18 at the Nawican Bergeron Youth and Cultural Centre (NBYCC) Youth Lounge.
Coordinate life skills training through goal-oriented and structured group social activities.
Utilize a "youth-centered approach" by ensuring youth have meaningful input in collaboration with the Youth Counsellor. Together, identify individualized plans that address each youth's cultural, behavioral, financial, residential, educational, recreational, social, and employment support needs to promote long-term success.
Participate in and support youth involvement in community events such as cultural festivals, fairs, and trade shows. Encourage and facilitate volunteer opportunities where available.
Promote awareness of the Nawican Youth Program by attending network meetings with other agencies and fostering positive relationships with service providers.
Transport youth to and from activities and/or appointments as needed.
Maintain accurate records and point-of-contact statistics, ensuring all required documentation is complete, including quarterly reports to MCFD.
Engage Elders and cultural knowledge keepers through a flexible, grassroots approach. Encourage youth participation in Indigenous cultural events and workshops.
Support the development of youth leadership, self-confidence, and conflict resolution skills through engagement with the established youth committee.
Provide monthly written reports to the Board of Directors.
As needed, assume responsibilities of the Program Director or other staff members during their absence. This may include office administration, transportation of clients, or coordination of goods and services.

Flexible and adaptable to evolving organizational needs and scheduling, including availability for work outside of standard hours or off-site as required.
A moderate level of physical fitness is necessary, as program delivery may involve walking, standing, kneeling, and lifting.
Qualifications
Grade 12 Diploma (or Adult Dogwood) required; post-secondary education in a related field is strongly preferred.
Diploma in Social Work, Counselling, or a certificate in a youth-related field, or a minimum of three (3) years of equivalent work experience
Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or urban Indigenous service organizations is considered an asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, and Outlook), with the ability to use tools efficiently for documentation and communication
Occupational First Aid and Food Safe certificates (or willingness to obtain)
Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive personnel information with professionalism and integrity
Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
Valid Class 5 Driver's License and a clean Driver's Abstract
Preference may be given to applicants of Aboriginal ancestry (pursuant to Section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code).
Work Conditions
Location: Nawican Bergeron Youth and Cultural Centre, Dawson Creek, BC
37.5 hours per week; schedule may vary based on organizational needs.
