The successful candidate will have the following;Current Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector SearchA combination of education and experience in community development and/or youth development.Knowledge of local youth-serving agencies, services, and programs; knowledge of issues facing youth is an asset.Previous experience working with youth is an asset.Knowledge of the Planet Youth Model is an asset.Knowledge of local Indigenous culture is an asset.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer skills.Ability and desire to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.Reliable access to transportation.Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.Three professional references.What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?Reporting to the Planet Youth Manager - North, this candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:Youth CouncilFacilitate Youth Council meetings with support of Planet Youth volunteersPlan Youth Council meetings, including leading discussions and age-appropriate activities.Initiate communication with and respond to inquiries from Youth Council participants and their caregivers.Community EngagementIdentify opportunities through schools or community partners to promote Planet Youth and engage with community members, especially parents/caregivers of youth.Establish and maintain strong, trusting relationships with community members, local organizations, leaders, stakeholders.Conduct surveys or focus groups to gather input on community needs, challenges, and priorities and use feedback to adjust accordingly.Social MediaManage Instagram accounts and Facebook pages for both community coalitions and Youth Councils, including promoting events and encouraging increased engagement.Other department or community duties as required.Requested Skills:Strong organizational and communication skills.Ability to build rapport and trust within diverse community groups; demonstrates empathy and active listening skills.Cultural sensitivity and understanding of diverse backgrounds and needs; ability to work and connect with youth (ages 12 - 18) from all backgrounds.Ability to lift and carry equipment and lead set-up and take-down before and after events/programming.What qualities do we look for in YMCA Calgary Staff and Volunteers?Our diverse team of staff and volunteers are committed to making a positive impact in the community.
