This is recreational work in coordinating the operations of a small, special purpose recreation centre and in developing and implementing recreational programs and services to meet the needs and requirements of youth. An incumbent coordinates the operations of a small special purpose recreational centre and plans, develops, schedules and implements recreational programs and services; provides lay counselling or referral service for members of the Centre on such matters as legal affairs and health care; hires and trains part-time program and instructional staff; plans assigns, supervises, checks and evaluates the work of same and recruits and trains volunteers; prepares preliminary budgets and monitors revenue and expenditures; requisitions supplies as required; prepares and maintains a variety of records, reports, correspondence, statements and related data on all aspects of Centre operation; promotes and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts, publicizes and promotes Centre programs and services. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of a two-year community college program in recreation or related discipline, plus sound related community recreation experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and equipment used in the operation and management of a small, special purpose recreational centre; of the rules, regulations, policies, and requirements governing the operations of the Centre. Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate the operations, programs, and services of a small special purpose recreational centre under minimal supervision; to hire, train and motivate staff, and plan, assign and supervise the work of such staff; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with groups, associations, and the public, and to provide lay counselling and referral services to youth. A valid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia, and St. John's First Aid Certificate or equivalent, are required.
