As a
Material Handler/Equipment Operator
, you will spend 50-70% of your time operating specialized equipment--such as Combi lifts, MRT rotating telehandlers, forklifts, and gantry cranes, to safely move and organize heavy and oversized materials within a busy, space-constrained yard and facility. The remaining time will be spent supporting production by staging materials, assisting with shipping preparation, managing inventory, and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. This role requires strong spatial awareness, the ability to work in dusty conditions, and a steadfast commitment to safety in a fast-paced, hands-on setting.

The Responsibilities, include but not limited to:
Arrive punctually and ready for work, equipped with the necessary tools and materials to complete tasks efficiently.
Equipment Checks
Perform thorough routine inspections and basic maintenance on material handling equipment, including forklifts, telehandlers (ensuring correct outrigger use), and gantry cranes/
Check for signs of wear, mechanical issues, or safety concerns
Complete basic maintenance tasks as needed (e.g., fluid checks, tire inspections)
Promptly report any malfunctions, damage, or safety issues to supervisors or maintenance
Ensure equipment is safe, operational, and ready for use before beginning material handling tasks
Material Receiving, Inspection, and Yard Organization
Unload and maneuver 20-50 ft beams and cladding through narrow spaces with precision and care.
Use rigging techniques and gantry crane operations to handle large or heavy materials safely.
Load and unload trucks as needed--particularly for outbound shipments on Fridays--ensuring materials are properly staged or stored.
Receive and stage daily deliveries of sheet material for processing and milling operations.
Inspect all incoming materials for damage, defects, or discrepancies, and report issues to supervisors or the quality team.
Monitor and maintain accurate inventory records, and promptly report shortages or mismatches.
Organize and continuously reorganize the yard and warehouse to ensure efficient material flow, accessibility, and use of space.
Safely store materials in designated locations, ensuring proper labelling, organization, and adherence to safety protocols.
Material Movement and Production Support
Operate Combilift, MRT rotating telehandlers (dual control), forklifts, gantry cranes, and pallet jacks to safely move mass timber and heavy materials in tight spaces and between the facility and yard, following all company safety protocols and equipment operating procedures.
Use radios, headsets, or other digital communication devices to coordinate material movement and maintain clear, constant communication with team members across the yard and facility.
Follow picking lists and instructions to accurately prepare, pick, and deliver required materials to production and kitting workstations.
Read and interpret measurements in both metric and imperial units to ensure precision in material handling and preparation.
Use hand and power tools for tasks such as cutting and drilling to support production needs.
Shipping Preparation
Prepare materials for shipment, including packing, palletizing, and labelling items according to shipping requirements.
Use industrial shrink wrap to secure materials and prepare them for transport.
Verify shipment accuracy by cross-checking items, quantities, and documentation before dispatch to ensure all orders are complete and correct.
Daily Upkeep and General Tasks
Regularly and safely dispose of waste, managing bin dumping multiple times daily to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Maintain a tidy, organized, and efficient warehouse, yard, and work area at all times.
Support your teammates, remain flexible to changing priorities, and be ready to multi-task throughout the day.
Communicate effectively and contribute to a respectful, safety-conscious work culture.
Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and company policies and procedures.
Comply with our administrative policies and procedures as set forth from time to time.
Complete other duties as we may request which are consistent with your abilities and responsibilities.

Education & Qualifications:
Highschool graduation, an asset
Valid Class I forklift license
Telehandler certification preferred
Nice to Haves, but can be certified on the job:
MRT/Rotating telehandlers certification
Level 1 or 2 Occupational First Aid certification
WHIMS
Rigging certification
Basic hand and power tool experience
Comfort cutting/drilling materials as needed

Skills & Experience, Required:
5+ years of experience in a yard or warehouse environment, ideally with experience moving large material.
Must have Telehandler experience (Combilift and rotating telehandlers strongly preferred.)
Proven experience to maneuver materials in tight, challenging spaces with care and skill.
Must have previous yard organization/staging experience
Comfort working 75% of the day outdoors in dusty, rugged conditions.
Ability to read and interpret measurements (metric and imperial).
Good attitude, team-first mindset, and willingness to follow instructions and safety protocols.
Able to follow instructions and complete work tasks on schedule with clear timelines.
Nice to Have:
Experience using MRT/Rotating telehandlers, asset
Rigging and gantry crane experience.
Occupational First Aid Level 1 or 2
WHMIS
Understanding of mechanics
Basic Fabrication, carpentry, machining and assembly skills
