Working Foreman

Job Description

The Working Foreman is ultimately responsible for providing direction to a crew of related trades personnel as outlined by the General Foreman. The crew of trades personnel perform work in an operation or on a project in the areas of production piping and mechanical labor (fitters, welders & mechanical), direct materials, consumables (after receipt by the Company), the production facilities, and equipment. The Foreman will also support the General Foreman and assist in directing and coordinating the cutting, fitting, welding and testing of all piping & mechanical systems and equipment contracts onsite in order to achieve the production related targets, schedules and quality objectives, as well as contributing to the achievement of strategic operations objectives as outlined in the project schedules.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


Safety




Responsible for the direct oversight on all safety related matters for his or her crew.

To be a spokesperson for the work crew on all safety related matters. To actively participate in the investigation of all safety incident investigations. Reporting and investigating all safety incidents, near misses, and accidents. Ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe manner.

Schedule Conformance




To provide crew direction on the planning and coordination of the application of labor (quantity and skill level) to achieve production and contractual schedule targets as outlined by project management. Participating in the provision of weekly status updates of work order progress. Participating in build strategy development, production planning, and scheduling meetings. To remove scheduling barriers where possible to crew progress.

Cost Control




Directing the welders, mechanics, facilities, and equipment utilization to achieve production and contract targets. Participation in continuous improvement discussions. Cost effective use of direct materials and consumables.

Quality




Ensuring that the trades personnel under their direction have the skill level, training, experience, and knowledge to perform the task in accordance with the contractual specifications and Company quality standards. Ensuring that the most up to date information is available and used by the trades personnel according to client specifications. Ensuring that production tooling, equipment, and facilities used are calibrated (where required) and properly used, such that conformance with contractual and company standards is achieved. Implementation of corrective action on a timely basis. Deploying adequate resources to meet the quality schedule, and cost requirements of the job.

Position Requirements



Education


Completed a technology or a formal journeyman program in recognized trades discipline.

Experience:


Experience with formal quality systems, such as ISO 9000 or ASME. 5+ years of demonstrated knowledge in their specific trades Project and/or maintenance experience to include pipe fabrication in fitting, welding, and handling of large complex assemblies (up to 20 tons), rigging, burning, NDT, and safety awareness. Experience with labor cost control (budgets, reporting, progress evaluation, and schedules). Experience with provincial occupational health and safety regulations and application.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


Proven ability to understand the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and commissioning phases Sound knowledge of construction and project standards. Excellent communications skills (written and oral) are essential * May perform other related duties as assigned
