Together we are working with Nova Scotians to build a better future through sustainable natural resource management as we all benefit from the natural health and wealth of the province.About Our OpportunityUnder the direction of the Manager, Forest Protection and Provincial Fire Duty Officers of Forest Protection Division, the incumbent provides support to the duty officers and to the administrative and clerical staff in the function of the Division.This support includes a variety of assignments requiring knowledge and understanding of established methods, procedures, acts, rules and regulations in the Provincial Wildfire Coordination Centre.Primary AccountabilitiesThe Clerk manages, tracks and attends to multiple pieces of information, often from multiple sources, bringing order and clarity.The duties include:

  • receiving calls reporting fires from 911 Dispatch Centres, 1-800 fire reporting line, Shubie Radio and the general public, and forwarding essential information as soon as possible to the appropriate regional district offices
  • administer the Online Wildfire Report System
  • reviewing wildfire reports for accuracy,
  • frequent communication on the TMR radio system,
  • provide assistance in producing various daily wildfire situation reports
About YouHigh School and four years related experience is required; or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.You must have the ability to work in a modern computer based environment, and be familiar with the Internet. Experience with window based software programs is required. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as a good working knowledge of data management software and principles is required. Effective interpersonal skills is essential.You must be motivated, highly organized, capable of a high standard of accuracy and have very good verbal and written communication skills. You must be able to prioritize workload.It would be considered an asset if you have:
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Radio Operator experience, Experience with Trunk Mobile Radio system
  • Call Centre experience, particularly in an emergency communication setting
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Teams and other virtual meeting platforms
