They will assist the Principal Investigator (Cole Burton) and WildCo postdocs and graduate students in performing, managing and communicating wildlife-related research. Duties may include: data collection, organization and summary; scheduling and organizing meetings; maintenance and procurement of equipment; creating and updating protocols and research summaries; communicating research; assisting with budget and expense accounting; contributing to proposals and publications.Organizational Status
Reports to the PI, Dr. Cole BurtonWork PerformedWork with PI and lab members to develop and implement field and lab data collection protocols.Organize, maintain, and procure field and lab sampling equipment.Assist with budget and expense accounting.Schedule and organize meetings for lab members and research partners.Communicate with project partners and the public, including through non-technical research summaries and website/social media updates.Assist in supervising other research assistants and supporting graduate students and postdocs.Upload, process, review and archive image and other data.Obtain and summarize GIS or related environmental data.Assist PI and lab members in analyzing, summarizing and writing up results of survey data and literature review for funding proposals and peer-reviewed publications.Possibility of travel to remote locations to collect wildlife and habitat data and meet with research partners.Consequence of Error/JudgementWork is assessed on an ongoing basis by supervisor. Consequences would be delays in producing and communicating scientific research results that are expected by collaborators and funders.Supervision ReceivedWork is supervised by PI (Cole Burton) and senior lab members through regular meetings to review work performance and adjust activities/protocols as needed. Position is provided training in WildCo field and lab protocols.Supervision GivenPosition may assist in training and overseeing others in WildCo field and lab protocols.Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one\xe2\x80\x99s own- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one\xe2\x80\x99s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred QualificationsBSc in biology or equivalent with experience in the following: spreadsheets (e.g. Excel), statistical programming (e.g. R software), websites, working in a team, communicating with diverse audiences.
