Job Description

Dr. Maria Kilfoil and Dr. Bill Whelan are seeking one research assistant to work on a project to evaluate and optimize the use of Raman spectroscopy to detect microplastics in water samples from local watersheds.RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Review the literature on the use of Raman spectroscopy to detect microplastics in water
• Calibrate two Raman systems and optimize sensitivity
• Fabricate a synthetic river water sample using a variety of different microplastic

• Design and execute experiments to determine optimal operational characteristics for the two Raman systems

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a UPEI student
• Successful candidate will be enrolled in an undergraduate physics program at
• Experience with testing and evaluation of optics components in a physics laboratory setting
• Excellent hands-on skills
• Ability to work independently
