Dr. Ben Cameron, School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, is looking for a student research assistant to work on structural graph theory with algorithmic applications. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Write code for exhaustive computer searches of large sets of graphs to classify them by various properties
Optimize existing code bases and algorithms for exhaustive graph generation, especially with parallel processing
Investigate new graph families for structures that can lead to efficient graph algorithms
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have completed at least two years of a Mathematics of Computer Science Major program
Knowledge of Graph Theory and Discrete Mathematics/Combinatorics, and excellent coding skills are essential
Students should have (at a minimum) completed UPEI\'s CS 2920 and Math 2420 (or their equivalents)
Strong mathematical problem solving abilities is essential
Evidence to support this, including participation in math competitions like the Putnam will be considered an asset
Completion of any of the following courses will be considered assets: CS 3610, CS3520, MCS 3320, MATH 2720, MATH 3430, MATH 3710
Students must include their grades in these courses with their applications, and by applying, give consent for the Associate Dean of School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences to verify these grades through UPEI\'s online course management system
Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
