Hatfield is seeking a Water Resource Specialist to become part of our growing team in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Successful candidates will support the design and implementation of hydrogeology, hydrology, and/or climate components of Hatfield\xe2\x80\x99s mining, oils sands and infrastructure projects in Alberta. This position is full-time permanent and would be a combination of office and fieldwork, based out of our Fort McMurray office. Start date is negotiable.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement field programs required for hydrogeologic, hydrologic or climate monitoring.
  • Compile, manage and assess hydrogeologic, hydrometric, climatic, water use, water quality, and other environmental data.
  • Provide technical guidance to regarding environmental monitoring, environmental permitting, and assessment.
  • Manage projects and mentor junior staff on project teams.
  • Assess and interpret hydrogeologic, hydrometric or climate data, and draft technical reports.
  • Work on multidisciplinary teams and projects, and collaborate with Hatfield\xe2\x80\x99s aquatics specialists, water resource specialists, and other environmental specialists.
  • Support and/or lead the development of proposals and business development efforts.
Education and Experience:
  • BSc or higher, in sciences or engineering with some prior formal training (e.g., coursework) in environmental/earth science, hydrogeology or hydrology.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience including design, coordination, and implementation of field programs.
  • Eligible for, or have current, professional designation (e.g. PEng, PGeo, PChem, PAg, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience with hydrogeologic, hydrometric, or climate monitoring instrumentation, datalogger programming, and telemetry systems.
  • Experience and interest in field work. Field work in remote locations is required.
Other Assets/Skills:
  • Appropriate qualifications for work in and Alberta and British Columbia, and a valid Canadian driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
  • Aptitude and experience in project management and administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead / mentor junior staff.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written \xe2\x80\x93 including technical and scientific writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with multi-disciplinary teams.
