The Ministry of Forests is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land-based resources. The Ministry works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies.

The Senior Natural Resource Specialist acts as the Team Lead for the program, provides supervision, conflict resolution, stakeholder engagement, project management and leadership within the FrontCounter BC office. The position may also lead or provide support to major projects teams (i.e. clean energy teams, project review teams, and mines review teams) or provincial initiatives as required. `

Job Requirements:
  • A Bachelors Degree in a natural resource management related field and a minimum of 4 years related experience in a resource management related field etc.,
  • Or a Technical Diploma in a related field and 6 years related experience,
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Experience working with key resource-based statutes and the relationships between policies and programs; and how these affect agency operations (environmental values, issues, land survey system, land use planning, and natural resources management concepts and processes).
  • Experience working with common laws, including such aspects as riparian rights, easements, rights of way, under-surface rights, covenants, and timber reservations, as well as current or potential case law in the area of joint stewardship and fiduciary responsibility.
  • Experience negotiating and inter-relating positively and respectfully with clients, groups, communities, First Nations, other government agencies and industry.
  • Experience with resolving complex problems and controversial issues with tact that may require innovation, adaptation, or deviation from existing policies or programs.
  • Experience leading effective meetings and making effective presentations to public groups.
  • Experience supervising and/or providing functional supervision to staff.
