About the Dalhousie Student Union (DSU): The DSU represents the collective voice of over 20,000 students in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The DSU advocates for student rights, builds community on campus through events, supports over 300 societies, and provides focused services to foster a supportive and positive student experience. Overview As VPFO Commissioner, you will help the Vice-President, Finance and Operations in accomplishing their annual goals. Additionally, you will generally support the mandate of the Finance and Operations portfolio by advocating for students\' financial wellbeing, transparency, and accountability in the university\'s financial operations.

Duties:
  • Assist the Vice-President, Finance and Operations in the development of the DSU budget and financial plans.
  • Coordinate or provide support for campaigns connected to the DSU\xe2\x80\x99s position on financial aid, student fees, and other financial issues that impact students.
  • Support the Vice-President, Finance and Operations in ensuring the financial sustainability of the DSU and its services.
  • Operationally support and sit as a non-voting member on committees chaired by the Vice President Finance and Operations Committee, in particular:
  • Ensure minutes and meeting records are taken and submitted for record keeping and the DSU website.
  • Book rooms and venues for meetings, focus groups, and other events as required.
  • Maintain contact lists for committee members.
  • Assist in the recruitment of committee members from a variety of sources within the
  • DSU Membership.
  • Support transition for the incoming VPFO Commissioner.
  • Maintain the Finance and Operations portfolio guide.
  • Be responsible to the Vice-President, Finance and Operations; and
  • Perform various duties relating to finance and operations affairs within the portfolio of the Vice-President, Finance and Operations, at the discretion of the Vice-President, Finance and Operations.
