Position Summary The Western Agriculture Heritage Committee (WAHC) is looking for a volunteer to join our committee as the Communications Lead. The Committee celebrates and preserves the western heritage and rural values that both connect us to our past and continue to shape the future of our community. The communications lead will be responsible for committee communications and liaising with the Agriculture & Western Events Media Committee. The Communications Lead will also be responsible for contributing to the design of and maintaining the Committee Volunteer SharePoint site. Responsibilities Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for the writing and design of bi-monthly committee newsletters.
  • Work with Ag & Western Events Media Committee to identify stories and social media opportunities year round and during the 10 day stampede.
  • Write daily newsletters for the 10 day Stampede in July.
  • Maintain the Committee Volunteer SharePoint site.
  • Work with the Program Manager or Staff Liaison on communications-related activities such as storyboards for Stampede videos.
  • Work with the Committee Executive Assistant on keeping the distribution list up to date.
  • Support the committee executive as needed.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications:
  • Have experience or educational background in communications or public relations.
  • A background with experience in writing and communications is required.
  • Experience with newsletter platforms like Mailchimp.
  • Experience with SharePoint and MS Teams would be considered an asset.
Skills
  • Self-starter with the confidence to connect with committee members to \xe2\x80\x9cfind the story.\xe2\x80\x9d
  • Highly organized and able to manage calendars and deadlines.
  • Able to own various publication schedules and manage stakeholders and contributors.
Time Commitment The time commitment for this position is approximately 3 hours per month with greater commitment need during the 10 days of Stampede in addition to:
  • Attend \xe2\x85\x94 (typically 2-3) leadership meetings.
  • Attend \xe2\x85\x94 (typically 2-3) general committee meetings.
