The YMCA is looking for dedicated volunteers to support our Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada -LINC program. As a classroom volunteer, you will work alongside instructors, provide one-on-one or small-group support, and help create an engaging and supportive space for adult learners adjusting to life in Canada.
This is an UNPAID Volunteer Opportunity.
In this role, you will:
Support the instructor during classroom activities and lessons.
Work with learners one-on-one or in small groups to reinforce language skills.
Assist students with reading, writing, speaking, and listening exercises.
Help facilitate conversation practice and group discussions.
Provide encouragement and create a welcoming, inclusive learning environment.
Assist with classroom preparation such as setting up materials or organizing resources.
Support learners with basic digital tasks when required (e.g., navigating online platforms).
You bring:
TESL certification, TESL training, or related English-language teaching experience is an asset.
Previous teaching, tutoring, or classroom support experience is an asset but not required.
Strong English communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing).
Comfortable supporting adult learners from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Patient, respectful, and able to create a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Basic computer literacy and willingness to assist learners with simple digital tasks
Willingness to participate in mandated training to be completed before or shortly after commencement of work including:

Bill 168 (Violence & Harassment in the Workplace) Training
PCI Compliance
WHMIS
Child Protection Training
