Volunteer Coordinator NeededAre you passionate about brain health and helping support non-profits so they can carry out their crucial work? In this role as the Volunteer Coordinator, you will interview applicants, coordinate/assist with background checks, facilitate recruitment and retention of volunteers, ensure volunteers are appropriately placed within the organization, and provide leadership to the volunteers.About Us: The Neuropsychiatric Patients' Association of NL (NPA) is a non-profit organization founded in January 2008 by Dr. Hugh Mirolo, Neuropsychiatrist, as an offshoot of the province's only Neuropsychiatry Clinic. This unique association offers Newfoundland's neuropsychiatric patients an opportunity to address service deficits in the healthcare system, particularly in the area of neurocognitive rehabilitation post-brain injury.Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year commitment with possibility of extension;
  • Able to provide 3+ hours a week,
  • Able to adapt to a flexible volunteer schedule,
  • Good communication and listening skills,
  • Ability to work well both independently and with others,
  • Good time management,
  • Organized,
  • Friendly and open-minded,
  • Self-starter,
  • Previous experience as a volunteer coordinator or similar role an asset but not required
  • PHIA, Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector check, Confidentiality agreement and 3 references will be required upon application submission.
Summary of tasks:
  • Facilitate volunteer retention by ensuring adequate support and training for volunteers is available, offering advice and information to volunteers, ensuring volunteers are kept on task and motivated, and by organizing volunteer appreciation events,
  • Schedule monthly volunteer meetings to ensure all volunteers are kept up to date with developments within the NPA and to facilitate open-discussion amongst volunteers and members,
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment by ensuring up to date advertisements are available to the general public, conducting volunteer applicant screening, respond to volunteer applicants, facilitating interviews, collecting and organizing documents, checking references and assigning responsibilities,
  • Coordinate teams of volunteers for large-scale actions,
  • Keep detailed records of volunteers' information and assignments and ensure documentation is completed for all past, present and future volunteers,
  • Attend organization meetings,
  • Work closely with the Assistant Volunteer Coordinator (if applicable).
