Positive Living Niagara is a community-focused organization composed of passionate staff and volunteers. To provide direct support services within the framework of the StreetWorks program. The harm reduction program aims to reduce the transmission of HIV and other blood-borne infections among people who use drugs, to engage clients and support them into testing and treatment services, and to provide individuals with harm reduction education and supplies.
Nature and Scope:
The Volunteer Services Coordinator will actively recruit, train, and manage a comprehensive volunteer base that will provide assistance to Positive Living Niagara's programs in meeting the needs of clients within the Niagara Region. The Volunteer Coordinator will also provide effective leadership and direction to Positive Living Niagara program volunteers and staff when working in cooperation with Community Service Organizations.
Responsibilities:
Actively recruit and manage all aspects of the program, adhering to the policies, procedures and mission statement of Positive Living Niagara.
Represent Positive Living Niagara in a professional manner and promote the Volunteer Services Program in the community.
Support volunteer activities and the administrative needs of the program
Promote teamwork both within Positive Living Niagara and when working with other Community Service Organizations.
Enhance, augment, expedite and support the positive flow of communications throughout Positive Living Niagara.
Recruit, screen, train and manage the pool of volunteers to be available for the various programs across the agency.
Compile and maintain statistical information on activities conducted by the Volunteer Program and submit reports to the Director(s) as required for program funding and accountability.
Connect agency clients who wish to engage with the Friendly Visiting Program, to volunteers with common interests and knowledge.
Assist in fundraising, annual awareness campaigns and special project work as assigned.
Duties:
Coordinate the work of volunteers in agency functions.
Formulate and recommend programs, services and financial supports relating to the continuing management and expansion of Volunteer Services.
Coordinate the delivery of all volunteer activities with the agency.
Recruit and screen volunteers to ensure a comprehensive and stable volunteer base within the agency.
Provide orientation and coordinate training to new volunteers.
Select and refer volunteers to the most appropriate volunteer position, based on their knowledge, skills and abilities.
Supervise and support the work of volunteers, communicating with program supervisors and staff to ensure volunteer engagement and performance and assist in troubleshooting challenges.
Support volunteers in dealing with grief and bereavement that may present due to the nature of this work.
Develop and manage programs, courses and workshops appropriate to volunteer needs.
Maintain/develop volunteer files, forms, statistics and reports.
Maintain professional liaisons with other community services and agencies as appropriate to the volunteer program.
Manage and maintain electronic databases unique to the Volunteer Program.
Participate in community events targeting volunteer recruitment.
To perform other duties as assigned by Care Coordination Supervisor or Director(s).
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have education and training associated with a degree or diploma in social or health services or a college diploma with extensive volunteer coordination experience. Experience (professional or personal) in the HIV and/or substance use community is an asset. The successful candidate will possess a valid class "G" drivers' license, have a clear Drivers' Abstract and have access to a reliable vehicle. The successful candidate will be required to submit a Vulnerable Sector Police Check upon acceptance of the position.
