Volunteer Coordinator

Part-Time (Up to 10 hours per week)

Position Summary:



BFOSER is seeking a compassionate and organized Volunteer Coordinator to oversee the operations of our Drop-In Centre. This position is a volunteer position. This part-time role is ideal for someone who is empathetic, dependable, and comfortable navigating conversations related to grief and loss. The Volunteer Coordinator will play a key role in creating a welcoming, supportive environment for individuals and families navigating bereavement.

Key Responsibilities:



Drop-In Centre Oversight:

Open and close the Drop-In Centre as scheduled. Ensure the physical space is clean, comfortable, and ready for visitors. Maintain a calm, welcoming, and safe atmosphere for grieving individuals.

Volunteer Management:

Schedule, coordinate, and support a team of drop-in volunteers. Provide on-site guidance and act as the primary point of contact for volunteers. Ensure volunteers are trained and aligned with the organization's approach to grief support.

Logistics and Preparedness:

Prepare the Drop-In Room for weekly sessions (e.g., refreshments, supplies, seating). Monitor and maintain inventory of necessary materials and inform leadership of any supply needs.

Bereavement Support and Communication:

Welcome visitors with sensitivity and professionalism. Provide compassionate support and appropriate referrals as needed. Model respectful communication and active listening in all interactions related to grief and bereavement.

Qualifications:



Experience in volunteer coordination or group facilitation (preferably in a nonprofit or bereavement setting). Strong organizational and communication skills. Comfort and familiarity with topics of grief, loss, and emotional support Ability to work independently and take initiative. Understanding of trauma-informed and person-centered practices is an asset.

Work Conditions:



Part-time, flexible schedule (up to 10 hours per week). In-person presence required at the Drop-In Centre in the South Eastern Ontario region. Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required based on volunteer schedules. This position is a volunteer position.
