Job Summary Athabasca Tribal Council (ATC) is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator who will be responsible for the recruitment, screening, selection, training, motivation, and supervision of volunteers for our Cultural Festival happening in September 2023. A key component of this position is the promotion of volunteering opportunities to the public and maintaining a positive image of the organization within the community. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruitment, screening, selection, training, scheduling, motivation, and supervision of volunteers.
  • Promote opportunities of volunteering to the public.
  • Create and update volunteer database, volunteer job descriptions, and volunteer manual as required.
  • Designing and conducting training and orientation programs for volunteers.
  • Promote the involvement of volunteers among staff.
  • Respond to inquiries and requests regarding volunteerism.
  • Communicate important information and updates with volunteers to ensure a positive experience for both volunteer and the organization.
  • Create and manage schedule for volunteers to ensure that the site is well resourced for each day.
  • Have list of names for volunteers each day and ensure spreadsheets are updated.
  • Designated volunteer for each artist
  • Each nation (meals)
  • Servicing meals each day
  • Garbage pickup
  • School programs
  • Supervise volunteers - ensure they are at their stations on time and have the resources needed to fulfill their duties, and other supervisory duties such as:
  • Check-in with them throughout the day.
  • Ensure they take their breaks.
  • Help troubleshoot if they need help.
  • Adjust schedules in the event of no-shows, illness, etc.
  • Bring a good understanding of which roles are most critical and be capable of adjusting to changing conditions.
  • Be familiar with the site map and have one on them at all times to help assist visitors.
  • Ensure volunteer apparel and lanyards are handed out to each volunteer.
  • Ensure each volunteer knows the Emergency Response Procedure, including the emergency meeting point is and where medical assistance is located.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of working experience in a volunteer coordination capacity is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and have ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently.
  • Must have intermediate experience in MS office programs.
  • Ability to communicate in a friendly and informative manner with people from a wide variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds and lifestyles.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
