We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Volunteer Basketball Coach/Trainer to train and inspire young athletes to develop their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in basketball coaching and experience working with students in a supportive and engaging environment. This role involves planning training sessions, teaching fundamental skills, and fostering a positive atmosphere for all participants.
This role will require candidates to commit to training program participants for 3 hours per week on Mondays from September to April (total of 24 dates throughout the duration of the contract).
Duties
Develop and implement training plans that focus on skill development, teamwork, and game strategies.
Conduct training sessions that emphasize physical fitness, basketball techniques, and sportsmanship.
Provide individual coaching to players to enhance their performance and confidence on the court.
Monitor player progress and provide constructive feedback to encourage improvement.
Foster a safe and inclusive environment for all participants, ensuring adherence to behavior management practices.
Collaborate with other coaches/trainers and staff to promote a holistic approach to athlete development.
Engage with parents and guardians to communicate player progress and team goals.
Qualifications
Previous experience in training/coaching basketball (required)
Strong teaching skills with the ability to connect with students of various ages and skill levels.
Experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting is a plus
Knowledge of behavior management techniques to create a positive learning environment.
A background in physical education or related fields is a plus.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate young athletes effectively.
