We are looking for Volunteer Youth Basketball Coaches/Trainers who will lead a group of children ages 4-17 years old through drills and scrimmages and coach them during their practices and games. We are seeking individuals who would like to offer a chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. This position provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the game, excellent communication skills, and the ability to inspire and motivate players of all skill levels. This role involves educating athletes on basketball techniques, strategies, and sportsmanship while fostering a positive team environment. Gym locations are in South Edmonton.

This is a volunteer position, and there is no financial compensation. While this role is unpaid, it offers valuable experience, skill development, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.



Responsibilities



Teach fundamental basketball skills, including dribbling, shooting, and passing to youth participants. Organize and lead practice sessions, ensuring a fun and engaging environment. Develop game strategies and provide guidance during matches. Develop and implement practice plans that enhance players' skills and teamwork. Educate athletes on the rules of basketball and proper techniques for gameplay. Conduct training sessions focusing on individual skill development as well as team strategies. Evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback to help them improve. Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes respect, discipline, and sportsmanship. Organize and oversee team activities, including practices, games, and tournaments. Communicate effectively with players, parents, and other coaching staff regarding player progress and team objectives. Ensure the safety of all participants during practices and games.

Skills



Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and coaching techniques. Excellent communication skills to effectively educate players and engage with parents. Ability to motivate and inspire athletes to reach their full potential. Strong organizational skills to manage practice schedules, game plans, and player evaluations. Experience in coaching or playing basketball at a competitive level is preferred. A passion for teaching the sport of basketball to young athletes of varying skill levels.

Evening shift Monday to Friday On call Weekends as needed
