The Richmond Music School is the largest and oldest non-profit music school in Richmond, B.C., dedicated to high standards in teaching music, in both private and class settings. It enjoys a leadership position throughout Greater Vancouver for its many student performances and innovative programs. The Richmond Music School is a registered charity and the Canadian representative of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), a music examination board based in London, UK, and is the recipient of the 2020 City of Richmond Arts Education Award.
The School is governed by the Board of Directors with 7 volunteer members. The Board oversees the operation of the school and is responsible for its policies and directions. The School Principal, as appointed by the Board of Directors, manages the day-to-day activities of the school and implements the strategic initiatives set out by the Board.

The Richmond Music School is currently seeking for a passionate individual to join as a Volunteer Assistant to the Board of Directors.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Richmond Music School is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to provide secretarial support to its Board of Directors. This volunteer role plays a key part in ensuring the smooth operation of board activities through strong administrative and logistical support.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide administrative support to the Board Chair and Directors
Prepare and maintain agendas, meeting materials, and minutes for monthly Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting
Maintain Board and governance records
Coordinate Board communications
Assist with additional secretarial tasks as needed

Minute Taking
Non-profit administration
Board or governance processes (optional)

WHAT WILL YOU BRING:
We are looking for candidates with at least 2 years of experience in administrative support, executive assistance, or clerical roles, ideally within nonprofit or professional environments. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive for document preparation and collaboration is essential. Experience in minute taking, meeting coordination, and record keeping is an asset. Knowledge of music or music education is appreciated, but is not required.
REMOTE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:
The Board holds regular meetings on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm (excluding July, August, and December), typically via Zoom and for about 1.5-2 hours. One or two in person meetings may be scheduled throughout the year. The ideal candidate is expected to attend all Board meetings and commit to the role for a minimum of one year.
This volunteer position can be completely remote but of course we would love to have our volunteers joining our regular school and outreach concerts from time to time to get to know more about us.
Expected time commitment is about
6-8 hours per month
. The role is expandable to other communication-related projects if the volunteer is interested.
The volunteer is requested to have his/her own laptop and communications tools.
