We're looking for a passionate, self-motivated, detailed-oriented people-person to join our team. The successful candidate is willing to learn new skills and techniques in the area of vision therapy and rehabilitation, under the direct supervision of an Optometrist. Our clinic's patient population includes adults and children with strabismus (eye misalignment), amblyopia ("lazy eye"), learning related vision problems, post trauma vision syndrome (concussion), and special needs children. Responsibilities:
Conduct one-on-one customized therapy sessions with patients
Adjust activity levels for adults and patients depending on ability level
Track progress and provide meaningful feedback
Report and collaborate with the doctor regarding patient progress and challenges
Provide consultation and education to the family regarding the patient's activities
Maintain accurate records (scanning, filing, organizing reports)
Conduct standardized testing in Visual Processing skills
Help current and new patients feel cared for and supported
Contact referrals and educating prospective patients about our services
Perform additional office support duties (managing the therapy schedule, communicating with patients and their families, communicating with insurance companies and WSIB when applicable)
Non-clinical duties include: setup and management of equipment, maintaining therapy space
Qualifications:
Excellent communication skills, Verbal and written
Strong interpersonal skills with children and adults
Detail-oriented
Able to work independently as well as working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
Experience working in a therapeutic environment
Experience as an instructor in any capacity eg. giving lessons in a skill (eg. music/instrument lessons, swimming, art, etc), coaching a sport, etc
Ability to problem solve and adapt to change
Able to think critically and prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
Strong organizational and time management skills
Ability to work under minimal supervision
Strong aptitude for learning
Experience with children and special needs patients is desirable
A background in Psychology, Optometry, Optical, Childhood Education, OT/PT Assistant, kinesiology, teaching, social work, physiotherapy or occupational therapy would be an asset.
FULL training to the right candidate will be provided.
Hours include evenings to 7:00pm and occasional Saturdays (1-2/month)
