Senior Systems Analyst

to join our

Infrastructure & Networks

team. Working with a wide variety of individuals and teams within and outside the department, you will be part of a team responsible for the research, design, implementation and operation of BCIT's virtualized environments as it relates to the IT Academic, Administrative and Research agendas of BCIT.



This position requires a professional with at least 6 years of intermediate experience in the IT industry. Candidates must have a strong background in Microsoft Hyper-V system administration for a clustered environment, relevant operational and administration tools for a large compute environment of 50+ hosts and 1,500 server, device and container objects in a multi-campus virtual environment. Additionally, the successful candidate will need foundational knowledge of networking, compute farms and SAN environments.

With a team of similar professionals, design and manage virtual networks, storage, and compute resources, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure. This role will work closely with SAN and enterprise backup and recovery solutions. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement proactive measures to maintain high availability and disaster recovery across virtual environments spanning multiple data centres. Perform regular system updates and patches to maintain security and functionality of Hyper-V environments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess and define virtualization needs, translating business requirements into technical solutions. Develop and maintain documentation for virtualization architecture, operational procedures, and best practices. Mentor junior members of the BCIT ITS staff, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement in virtualization practices. Participate in on-call rotation and overtime as needed.


Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS



Institute of Technology diploma, or a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline; and A minimum of five (6) years of experience in virtualization technologies, with a deep understanding of hypervisors and cloud infrastructure management similar to BCIT. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Strong understanding of Windows Server Operating systems. Strong understanding of administration tools such as System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM), Windows Admin Center, System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) or third-party tools to track performance and ensure the health of the virtual environments. Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell for automation of virtualization tasks Strong knowledge of networking concepts, storage solutions, compute and system integrations related to virtualization. Experience with performance tuning and capacity planning in virtualized environments. Proven commitment to providing and maintaining the highest level of customer service. Effective oral and written communication skills. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to meet changing priorities and multi-task while meeting strict deadlines. Must be a team player and work well with cross-departmental teams. Ability to learn quickly and apply new knowledge and techniques. Commitment to regular ongoing professional development (including specific IT skills, professional associations and current industry trends). High level of professionalism and ethics.

Preferred Qualifications:



Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes. Experience with cloud platforms like Azure. Experience with monitoring tools for virtual environments. Relevant certifications from Microsoft for Azure. Understanding of infrastructure as code (IaC) principles and tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) Basic understanding of mainstream Linux operating systems. Clearly able to articulate complex topics to others, in internal and external situations, using both technical and non-technical language. Work on multiple project priorities in projects that vary in complexity, human resource availability and budget. Producing detailed technical documentation and architecture diagrams.
Applicant must reside and be able to legally work in Canada. The position is 50% work-from-home and 50% on-site at the BCIT Burnaby campus. Some travel to other campuses may be required.

Salary Range

$79,823 to $105,759 per annum


Additional Salary Information


Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
