) Linux Administrator (Intermediate Systems Analyst)

team. Working with a variety of individuals and teams within and outside the department, you will be responsible for the implementation and operation of enterprise class server environments related to the IT Academic, Administrative and Research agendas of BCIT.
You have a
minimum of four years
of professional experience in the IT industry, with a solid background in current Linux platforms. Your expertise includes system administration within web services architectures, automated server provisioning, secure server hardening, and virtualization. You also possess hands-on experience with DevOps practices, such as leveraging containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), implementing continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, and managing configuration automation using frameworks like Ansible and Puppet.
You are adept at clearly communicating complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences in various settings. You have successfully participated in multiple projects with differing levels of complexity, resource availability, and budget constraints. Your problem-solving skills enable you to analyze issues, identify potential causes, and develop effective solutions. Additionally, you have demonstrated an ability to implement security strategies in complex server environments and to produce comprehensive technical documentation and architecture diagrams.
Duties & Responsibilities

Perform tasks under the supervision and guidance of senior staff.
Assist with planning, installing, and supporting server technology and software for development, production, and business continuity network environments.
Ensure compliance with standards, procedures, and established configuration management protocols for server resources.
Ensure the continuous availability of systems by conducting preventive and corrective maintenance on software and related middleware components.
Develop comprehensive server testing, recovery, and business continuity strategies and procedures.
Conduct analysis and provide solutions for complex server configurations, operating environments, security protocols, and performance metrics to ensure system stability, responsiveness, and operational efficiency.
Perform server operating system tuning and capacity planning to ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements and optimal service availability.
Prepare service tickets that include clear, concise requirements and detailed technical information.
Respond to tickets according to service level agreements.
Manage the secure provisioning and continuous monitoring of server resources.
Participate in rotating on-call duties to provide prompt support and issue resolution.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Institute of Technology diploma, or bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline
A minimum of four (4) years current relevant experience in an IT environment like BCIT including two (2) of the past four (4) years in a similar position
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
The candidate must demonstrate current, specialized IT knowledge.
A demonstrated commitment to delivering and maintaining exceptional customer service is essential.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required, with fluency in English.
Candidates should showcase proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong organizational skills are necessary to manage shifting priorities and multi-task effectively while adhering to tight deadlines.
The ability to collaborate as a team player and work effectively with cross-departmental teams is important.
A quick learner with the capacity to apply new knowledge and techniques efficiently is essential.
A commitment to continuous professional development, including enhancing specific IT skills, engaging with professional associations, and staying updated on industry trends, is expected.

QUALIFICATION
SPECIFICS
Experience in designing, deploying, and administering large-scale web infrastructure architectures tailored to client specifications, utilizing a diverse range of Open-Source technologies including, but not limited to, Nginx, PHP-FPM, Tomcat, Redis, MySQL and associated components.
Proficient in implementing high-availability (HA) application deployment solutions encompassing horizontal scaling, clustering, and load balancing strategies, with a comprehensive understanding of how these requirements influence deployment architecture and operational procedures. Skilled in containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes for environment provisioning, deployment, and management of containerized applications.
Adept at IT configuration management utilizing configuration automation tools such as Puppet, Ansible, or equivalent frameworks to maintain consistent and reproducible system states.
Knowledgeable in log aggregation and analysis platforms for effective system monitoring and troubleshooting.
Proficient in scripting languages including Bash, Ruby, and Python for automation, customization, and process orchestration tasks.
Strong command of version control systems, notably Git, applying disciplined workflows for code management, change tracking, and collaboration.
Foundational expertise in network traffic analysis and debugging techniques for Linux-based systems, including packet capturing, protocol analysis, and performance diagnostics.
Proficiency in AlmaLinux, RHEL, and CoreOS operating systems.

Experience deploying and managing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions utilizing tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and OpenTofu.
Expertise in automated server provisioning frameworks including Ignition and Azure Resource Manager (ARM).
Comprehensive understanding of privacy, identity, and data protection policies, including adherence to relevant compliance standards for internal and external service provision.
Proficiency in operating Linux within Hyper-V virtualization environments.
Knowledge of single sign-on (SSO) protocols and identity federation technologies such as SAML, OAuth 2.0, and OpenID Connect.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps practices, and related automation workflows.
Implementation and management of enterprise Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
Secrets management expertise, including deployment and integration of HashiCorp Vault with configuration management tools like Puppet and secrets management within Kubernetes environments.
Familiarity with Atlassian suite products, including Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
Experience with security and compliance frameworks such as PCI DSS and ISO/IEC 27001, including operational implementation and audit readiness.

Salary Range: $65,187 - $89,242 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
