Veterinary Technician/Assistant - Full Time/Part Time

Southwood Animal Hospital is currently seeking a

dedicated and compassionate Full-Time/Part Time Veterinary Technician/Assistant

Responsibilities:



Assist veterinarians during medical and surgical procedures. Prepare patients for surgery, including shaving, disinfecting surgical sites, and pre-anesthetic preparation. Monitor anesthesia, vital signs, and patient status during surgical procedures. Maintain sterile surgical instruments, equipment, and operating environments. Provide post-operative and recovery care, ensuring patient comfort and safety. Provide nursing care to hospitalized patients, including monitoring, treatments, and comfort care.Obtain and accurately record patient histories. Collect diagnostic samples (blood, urine) and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Perform in-house laboratory tests such as bloodwork and urinalysis.Take digital radiographs (X-rays) as directed by the veterinarian. Prepare, calculate, and administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian. Ensure accurate drug dosage calculations and follow DVM double-check procedures. Maintain controlled substance logs and medication records in compliance with regulations. Maintain accurate and thorough medical records and documentation. Support overall hospital organization and cleanliness. Foster a collaborative, respectful, and positive work environment aligned with clinic values. Assist with front desk coverage during staff breaks or vacations to ensure seamless operations.

Qualifications & Skills :



Certification as a Veterinary Technician with experience in a veterinary clinic or surgical setting. Strong knowledge of anesthesia monitoring, surgical instrument handling, dental radiography, and laboratory procedures. Solid understanding of surgical techniques, protocols, and patient care. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail. Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Compassionate, professional approach to animal care and team collaboration. Physically capable of lifting and handling animals of various sizes. Ability to maintain accurate and professional medical records. Willingness to work emergency or extended hours as needed, including some weekends.

Experience

:

Veterinary Clinic (6+ months - 1 year): 1 year (preferred) Animal Handling (6+ months - 1 year): 1 year (preferred) Experience with Daysmart Veterinary software an assest

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
