Hexagon Purus Systems Canada Ltd. is currently seeking a Vehicle Thermal Systems Engineer to work out of our Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada office. Overview Reporting to the Vehicle Systems Engineering Lead, responsible for:

  • Performing vehicle thermal system analysis.
  • Sizing and selecting thermal components.
  • Working with design team to develop efficient designs.
  • Work with validation team to prove out designs.
Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Vehicle Systems Engineering Lead be responsible for development of the thermal management system for electric vehicles, including battery heating/cooling, power electronics cooling, and cabin heating/cooling.
  • Responsible for developing thermal/fluid system schematics for commercial vehicles including sub-ambient cooling systems.
  • Perform theoretical analysis to determine requirements for thermal component sizing and layout.
  • Develop control models to optimize system thermal efficiency.
  • Assists design team in selecting appropriate components and fluids (such as pumps, radiators, chillers, etc.) based on their cooling needs.
  • Build out validation and test plans for thermal systems and related components.
  • Process field data to determine areas of improvement.
  • Presents project updates to colleagues.
  • Participates in development and assembly of prototype systems.
  • Works effectively with others in a collaborative team environment under fluctuating circumstances to resolve issues that require innovative and unique approaches.
  • Updates job knowledge by studying quality management trends, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, etc.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Qualifications, Experience, Education
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience
  • Completed a Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
  • Experience bringing products from concept to production.
  • Design and integration of liquid cooled systems
  • Design and integration of refrigeration systems
  • Experience developing and executing test and validation plans.
  • Understanding of systems development and the V-model
  • Coding/scripting ability (MATLAB, Python) with ability to draw meaningful conclusions from large datasets.
  • Experience in the automotive field and standard connections for fluids and refrigerant.
  • Understanding of challenges/constraints of on vehicle thermal systems
  • Detail oriented with superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Microsoft Office software skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Ability to handle multiple jobs and adapt to a rapidly changing work environment with fluctuating priorities.
  • Required permits/visas to be allowed to legally work in Canada.
  • Valid passport with ability to travel to USA immediately.
