The opportunity

EY US Payroll is responsible for processing payroll for ~50,000 US EY professionals. EY US Payroll is an integrated team with streamlined operations which effectively utilizes technology to achieve operational excellence through the implementation of appropriate audits & controls and a continued focus on process improvements. The payroll team highly values a positive customer experience, cross-functional team collaboration, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures along with all legislative/regulatory compliance requirements.

Will execute on the payroll audit & controls vision established by leadership guided by the Supervising Associate of Audit & Controls and Senior Associate(s) using the available toolset including the Payroll Control Center and reports. Responsible for running reports to validate and confirm that the on-cycle and off-cycle payroll processing is “correct” and “accurate” according to the standards set by EY Payroll leadership. Associates will follow established EY US Payroll policies, procedures, and service level agreements. Responsible for advising and fulfilling payroll reporting needs using Spinifex which supports.
Your key responsibilities

  • Through teamwork and collaboration, helps drive operational excellence and ensures personal and workstream accountability of results
  • Utilizing the available toolset(s) and technologies will create and test new controls used in confirming that a payroll processing is ready to be released for processing
  • Maintains internal audits and controls, which includes Payroll Control Center (PCC) alert management. These may be either proactive control measures designed to detect and prevent process errors, or audits of the payroll results to provide an independent validation of the results and raise questions or concerns of potential issues to the appropriate work streams prior to leadership signoff/payroll release
  • Understands and confirms Segregation of Duties (SoD) in business processes and reports enforcement throughout the payroll teams
  • Assists with audits to ensure that proper payments and employee contributions are calculated and disbursed, as well as ensuring payroll process and work instruction documents are maintained, and as needed, updated properly
  • Supports the Audit & Controls team in ensuring processes are following current documentation and perform periodic audits to test compliance
  • Contributes to development and maintenance of Payroll Procedures per payroll policy and pay practice. Administers and maintains procedures related to data retention, disaster recovery, Year End, Company reporting requirements, and operational procedures
  • Under team leadership monitors payroll system security/user access rights and overseeing process for granting/removing user access
  • Responsible for timely and accurate reporting of data and adhering to EY quality standards for creation and maintenance of audits and PCC alerts and other controls
  • Develops operational excellence and accountability
  • Promotes teamwork and, under supervision, creates controls to enhance payroll compliance
  • Contributes to 3rd party payroll reporting application oversight including design, training, security, development, and distribution of payroll reporting for statutory agencies and internal consumers. Adhere to firm risk data policy mitigation procedures regarding distribution of confidential information, security, platforms, and destruction
  • Participates in compliance testing and providing appropriate, approved, requested data to General Counsel’s Office (GCO), EY Employment Tax Services and internal functional teams to maintain EY Statutory compliance and refine firm payroll control practices, including payroll accounting
  • Maintains accountability and confirms that day to day activities are completed on time and meet EY quality standards
  • Assists in resolution of internal/external problems in a high volume, fast paced, and deadline driven payroll environment
  • Challenges existing policies, processes, and approaches (where appropriate) and offers innovative suggestions for process improvement efforts, helps to implement opportunities that improve operational efficiency or effectiveness of the team
  • Reports regular status updates to leadership regarding results of the audits performed and the errors detected by the controls
  • Produces KPI/metrics reporting of payroll team business processes and functions
  • Performs ad hoc requests or special projects as needed

To qualify for the role you must have
  • 2 - 4 years of progressive related (Payroll) work experience
  • Audit & Control experience preferred or similar role in similar-sized organization; else payroll experience in a similar-size organization (preferred, but not required)
  • Has the payroll-specific knowledge and skills needed to act as a subject matter resource (SMR) to execute on the firm’s vision of the audit and control process and work as directed by Payroll leadership as well as with other stakeholders, where required
  • Advanced proficiency with technology products including but not limited to: ADP GlobalView, ServiceNow, the Payroll Control Center and other related applications
  • Experience training new employees while leveraging existing policies and procedures and making recommendations for continuous improvement

Ideally you will also have
:
  • Payroll certification (i.e. CPP – Certified Payroll Professional)
  • Bachelor’s degree
