Job Description

Summary:

This position is responsible for planning/managing the loads originating in US destined for Canada with the focus on reducing empty miles. As well as all the related aspects of the daily operation with regards to the areas of responsibility, such as equipment management. This role is also responsible for managing XTL's daily freight demands in US in the absence of customer freight by acquiring broker freight.

Work Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday 6 AM - 4 PM
*must be able to work on-call shifts

  • must be able to switch shifts and provide coverage when needed
Responsibilities:

US Backhaul
  • Manage and plan all loads by priority
  • Participate to minimize empty miles
  • Monitor the productivity of tractors
  • Minimize the "wasted time" between loads
  • Must fulfill some managerial duties
  • Ensure physical yard check, load security, and heated load monitoring
  • Manage and reposition equipment as per customer demands
Respect of policies, programs, procedures, and practices
  • Apply dispatch rules according to the collective agreement and company programs, procedures and policies.
  • Report any disciplinary issues to the Driver Manager
  • Monitor performance and report service failures to Driver Manager.
  • Responsible for on time performance at pick up and delivery locations (emphasis on live loading and unloading location)
Communication Responsibilities
  • Ensure the best line haul rate possible and explore load options
  • Grow and develop relationships with Load Brokers who meet or exceed our partnership criteria
  • Communicate XTL's daily needs via updating and monitoring with LoadLink and distributing daily broadcast e-mail
Additional Responsibilities
  • Cross-train with domestic dispatchers to provide support when needed
  • Provide support to complete payroll for Drivers
Skills & Abilities
  • Must have 1-2 years of experience, either in transport or related industry;
  • Must have good geographical knowledge;
  • Candidate must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Impeccable, detailed and Proactive Phone and Satellite habits
  • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy;
  • Ability to evaluate data and options for action and to reach sound conclusions;
  • Must be team player with strong commitment to quality and customer service;
  • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities, meet deadlines, work under pressure and take on additional tasks;
