We are seeking a dedicated and hands-on
Farm Manager
to oversee the operations and growth of our hydroponic greens farm. This role blends farm management, volunteer coordination, business development, and community engagement. You will help build a sustainable food system that supports local food security and engages community members in meaningful ways.
The successful candidate will:
Urban Farm Operations
Manage daily operations of the hydroponic farm, including planting, harvesting, packaging, and maintaining equipment.
Implement production schedules and track performance data.
Business & Social Enterprise Development
Develop and execute marketing strategies to sell and donate farm products, grow customer/community relationships, and manage distribution.
Report regularly to supervisors and the Urban Farm Committee, ensuring goals are met.
Oversee the development of a composting program to support community sustainability.
Support grant writing and fundraising activities for the farm's growth.
Volunteer & Team Coordination
Coordinate and train farm volunteers.
Develop schedules and ensure that all team members are properly trained in farm tasks and safety protocols.
Foster a positive, inclusive environment for volunteers and staff.
Community Engagement & Outreach
Organize farm tours, workshops, and events to engage the community.
Collaborate with local partners to connect food production with food literacy and education.
Help raise awareness of the farm's impact through social media, local media, and other outreach strategies.
Qualifications:
Experience with or willingness to learn hydroponic farming, urban gardening, and composting.
Interest in community food security and social enterprise business model.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a passion for community engagement.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Physically able to perform manual labor (lifting up to 50 lbs).
Valid driver's license.
Food Safe Level 1 (or willingness to obtain).
