Your Opportunity:

Unit 3 at the Alberta Children\'s Hospital is a 27 bed combined medical/surgical unit. The nursing staff work 12 shifts with a RN/ LPN staff mix. Patients on Unit 3 are generally admitted for pediatric medical and surgical needs with a focus on Nephrology, Urology, burns, neurosurgery and Neurology. Unit 3 is a high intensity and fast paced unit caring for a patient population with diverse and complex conditions that requires a variety of lengths of admissions. The Hemodialysis Program is located in the Nephrology Clinic and consists of 3 out-patient beds. Children requiring chronic hemodialysis are scheduled into this area and are dialyzed by the RNs trained in hemodialysis from Unit 3. The program is staffed according to daily needs and includes an on-call schedule. The Medical Day Treatment Unit is a 6 bed unit next to Unit 3 that is open from 0730-1545 Monday-Friday and provides IV infusions to children referred by ACH clinics. It is staffed with RNs and a Unit Clerk.

The Unit Manager is responsible and accountable for providing direction, team leadership and organization over the activities of Inpatient Unit 3, Hemodialysis and the Medical Day Treatment Unit in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services in collaboration with the Patient Care Manager. The Unit Manager position is responsible and accountable for making unit-level and program related decisions as well as having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of the goals across the broader Child Health portfolio. The Unit Manager is responsible for facilitating change management and quality improvement, promoting team development, and coordinating staffing and clinical work. The Unit Manager is responsible for coordinating clinical supervision, recruitment, and performance management/appraisals for staff.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from a recognized Bachelor Level Degree nursing education program, supplemented by active registration and practice permit with CARNA, or equivalent degree. Minimum 3 years\' experience within the past 5 years of acute pediatric nursing and/or health care practice. Minimum 3 years\' experience within the past 5 years in a management and/or leadership position within health care.

Ability to foster a climate of cooperation and collaboration and to build solid relationships between inter-professional team members required. Strong Inter-professional conflict resolution and negotiation skills Critical thinking and complex analysis to support effective problem solving required. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development required. Self-directed and highly motivated. Ability to manage human, financial, and physical resources within an operating environment.
Preferred Qualifications:

Master\'s degree in Nursing, or Equivalent Completion of 3 Leadership related courses in the past 5 years.
