About Island Gold District

: Alamos Gold's Island Gold District will become one of the largest and lowest-cost gold mines in Canada. With the two mines within the district, Island Gold and Magino employ over 900 team members who work in the underground and open pit operations and are located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Primary Responsibilities:




Standards



Act as a subject matter expert on Underground mining training standards. Review and provide constructive feedback on new and existing standard operating procedures. Uphold OHSA regulations and Alamos Gold Safety Procedures and Policies.

Safety




Act as a safety resource for the operations, maintenance and administration staff. Conduct formal and informal inspections. Assist and facilitate in investigations. Conduct job/task observations as required.

Training




Conducts Health and Safety Underground and Surface training which includes theoretical classroom-based training and in-field practical training, and training specific to site operations. Conducts theoretical and practical assessments to validate employee knowledge, skills and competency. Ensure all MTCU files are complete according to Ministry of Labour standards (Surface and Underground). Ensure all employees have been properly signed off for equipment they are operating. Maintain employee training records. Provide coaching and mentoring for departmental train-the-trainers. Perform job observations as a follow-up to recent training efforts. Provide and / or coordinate follow-up training for employees.

Scope of Responsibility & Complexity



Work is complex or specialized in nature. Work is performed under general direction and assigned in terms of specific objectives to be achieved. Requires considerable initiative and judgement in delivering results. Work often requires the ability to multitask. Resolves problems requiring judgements to select a solution from a number of alternatives. Makes decisions governed by general policy. Outcomes are reviewed for attainment of objectives, adherence to policies and effectiveness of results.


What You Bring to the Table:




Experience providing training on surface and underground equipment. Experience providing safety-related training (i.e., Working at Heights, Confined Space, etc.) Shaft experience is considered an asset. "Train the Trainer" accreditation. Minimum of 10 years' experience in a mine production environment. Self-starter who is able to anticipate needs and work independently with minimal supervision. Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, growing work environment. Excellent inter-personal skills together with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort. Good communication skills, both orally and written with both internal and external contacts and the ability to work with all levels of the organization. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required.

Working Conditions:




Position is based in Alamos Gold Mine operations working on a defined 7/7 rotation schedule. Willingness and ability to work extra hours and on call when required. Flights are available from Sudbury, Rouyn and Toronto.
