The Opportunity
Are you a curious and motivated recent graduate from a Finance, Accounting or Business program? Have you ever wondered what it may be like to work in a Treasury Department of a Schedule 1 Bank? This is your opportunity to test it out with a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and focused team in our Treasury Department in downtown Vancouver.
What is Treasury and what do they do? We are responsible for managing two of the larger risks on Canadian Western Bank’s balance sheet: interest rate and liquidity risk. Key activities associated with the management of these risks include: Asset Liability Management, Liquidity Management, Cash Management, Portfolio Management, Securitization, Funding as well as Treasury Data Infrastructure. This is an opportunity to learn a bit about each of these areas by supporting where needed and reporting directly to our AVP Treasury Balance Sheet Execution.
Key Focuses:


  • Actively support each of the respective Treasury teams as necessary.

  • Assist the AVP, Treasury Balance Sheet Execution in the re-build and transformation of CWB’s various reports and pricing tools.

  • Assist the Portfolio Management team with activities relating to trade execution matters.

  • Work closely with the Treasury Cash Management team on daily cash management.

  • Assist in monitoring and reporting Treasury compliance and trade limits governance.

  • Contribute to the on-going Treasury Infrastructure Program.

  • Responsible for the documentation of clearly defined departmental procedures, defining requirements and building tools, forms and templates that will drive efficiency and value for team members.

  • Support team members as required.

  • Act with integrity, accountability, respect, common sense and caring to cultivate the relationships we want.

  • Communicate to support the awareness, understanding and adoption of new processes, tools and reference materials.

  • Contribute to maintaining a positive work environment whereby the team is engaged.

Who you are:

  • A recent graduate from a post secondary Finance/Accounting/Business program.

  • A strategic thinker with proven ability to accept accountability and take initiative.

  • A team player with proven ability to work independently and within a group.

  • Focused and driven with a proven ability to concentrate on a variety of tasks, with frequent interruption, seeing them through to completion.

  • An organizer who can manage deadlines and conflicting/competing tasks while maintaining strong time management skills.

  • A strong communicator with above average presentation, facilitation and negotiation skills.

  • A detailed oriented adaptive problem-solver with skills to order to identify, determine and select appropriate action.

  • Results oriented and motivated by positive change.

  • A curious and interested individual with strong personal interest in financial markets.

  • Tech savvy with strong computer skills (Excel, Word, SharePoint).
