Reporting to the Accessible Transit Coordinator, the Transit Travel Trainer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering customized travel training to prospective and current transit users who would benefit from tailored instruction and learning support on how to use conventional public transit services independently. With a focus on the City of Edmonton\xe2\x80\x99s Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, they will be responsible for:

  • Contacting and meeting with prospective clients, caregivers or group/agency representatives to assess and confirm travel training and transit orientation/information needs
  • Developing customized training plans, activities and materials geared to the needs and abilities of the travel training participants
  • Delivering training sessions and activities according to the training approach/activities agreed upon with the travel training client, caregiver or group seeking training. Training takes place in the community, on the transit system, and virtually when appropriate, depending on the needs of client or group
  • In the case of individual (one-to-one) travel training, assessing a client\xe2\x80\x99s progress during training and their readiness to use transit independently after training is completed
  • Scheduling training sessions, gathering and preparing required instructional materials. Liaising with internal resources, including bus charter arrangements as required, for instructional needs
  • Representing Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) at public engagement activities, information fairs, and organization or other public events to provide information about ETS and promote mobility training, ETS accessibility, and safety services to target groups
  • Providing assistance to clients needing more support with route and schedule information and trip planning. Providing guided, practical learning opportunities with various transit information and trip planning tools
  • Assisting with general ETS outreach and public engagement (seasonal service changes, new service launch, special events)
  • Providing input into the development and expansion of future customer travel training offerings based on feedback from clients and user groups, including strategies to leverage travel training capacity with community partners
  • Reviewing, evaluating, and recommending updates to existing applications and program offerings to ensure their suitability to existing conditions
  • Acting as an additional accessibility resource internally; sharing feedback received from customers about transit services or features with relevant internal teams
  • Meeting with individuals or groups to gather input or feedback regarding transit service.
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications:
  • University Degree in Education, Communication, Social Work, Recreation Therapy or a related discipline
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience in curriculum delivery, training program development or related area of specialization
  • Familiarity and experience with Edmonton\xe2\x80\x99s local public transit system, range of transit services, information tools and resources, accessibility and safety and security features
  • Experience working with a diverse range of people including people with physical, cognitive, and mental health conditions and disabilities, people for whom English is not a primary language, youth, and people of diverse socio-economic backgrounds
  • Training in First Aid, Mental Health First Aid/ best practices, or GBA+ would be an asset
  • Training or coursework focused on best practices working with/serving people with disabilities, seniors, youth or multicultural groups/audiences
  • Familiarity with accessible communications formats and features, Universal Design, GBA+ analysis/lens, and assistive technologies
  • Ability to understand customers\' diverse needs and abilities
  • Ability to take a \xe2\x80\x98whole person\xe2\x80\x99 approach, working with people\xe2\x80\x99s abilities and needs to help them build skills and confidence needed to use transit independently
  • Ability to do accompanied instructional trips, on the transit system with clients in the community and in various areas of the city
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders; solution oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct secondary research and summarize findings, assess, recommend and implement best practices
  • Excellent instructional skills, with diverse experience working with a range of audiences, particularly people requiring flexible instructional approaches and strategies
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills, comfortable with public speaking in various formats and contexts - in person, remote, ad hoc/informal and formal
  • Excellent computing skills, including proficiency with Google environment and applications, including Mail, Meet, Maps and other Google applications
  • This position will involve a combination of working from the office and with transit users in the community. This will include traveling to various locations throughout the City
  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector Search satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement

Up to 1 permanent full-time position Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week.
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary: $36.808 - $46.267 (Hourly); $64,846.490 - $81,510.890 (Annually)
