Help maintain a safe, secure, welcoming and inclusive environment for passengers using public transit throughout the city of Edmonton. Transit Peace Officers respond to and resolve diverse situations that occur on a daily basis at various Edmonton Transit Service facilities and properties. In this role you will utilize your customer service skills, take the initiative to prevent situations, and ensure you are visible for the safety of your teammates and the public.   • Respond to security emergencies, incidents and general complaints that occur at any ETS facility or on ETS property
  • Ensure ETS facilities are secure and patrons are safe by conducting routine preventative patrols on ETS property and reporting immediately any potential or actual risks or losses
  • Ensure ETS customer service needs are met by providing transit information such as required fares or location stops, responding to injury reports within transit facilities, and assisting passengers who require any support in using the transit service
  • Cultivate and maintain respectful relationships with Edmonton\xe2\x80\x99s diverse individuals and communities and act as a positive ambassador for the City of Edmonton
  • Exercise discretionary law enforcement powers under federal and provincial legislation, and municipal bylaws
  • Work with a variety of security professionals, other Peace Officer groups and the Edmonton Police Service to improve safety as it relates to ETS
  • Support Transit Operations with safe and efficient fare enforcement
  • Collect information and evidence to support court proceedings, insurance claims, and Security and Risk Management activities. Give testimony or evidence in court as required
  • Prepare letters and reports, develop and implement special events, conduct media interviews and public presentations
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications:
  • Completion of a recognized Diploma related to Police Studies, Security or Criminology and a minimum of 3 years of customer service experience with at least 1 year of diverse law enforcement experience - OR - Grade 12 and a minimum 5 years of enforcement experience in a recognized law enforcement environment, and must have been a serving Police Officer in Canada, or employed as a Peace Officer Level I within Alberta for at least 2 years (Equivalencies may be considered)
  • Must possess or be able to obtain the Provincial Community Peace Officer I designation with completion of the Community Peace Officer Induction Program - CPOIP, as well as a Bylaw officer appointment. Those awaiting certification will be paid at a development rate
  • Must be able to obtain or have successfully completed the Physical Abilities Readiness Evaluation (P.A.R.E.)
  • Skilled in exercising tact, sound judgment and firmness in dealing with difficult situations and with the public
  • Ability to de-escalate potentially volatile situations, and to recognize and react appropriately to dangerous situations and an understanding of officer safety techniques
  • Knowledge and experience working with diverse communities
  • Experience working or volunteering in your community or with racialized people and other equity seeking groups would be considered an asset
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of another language is an asset
  • Demonstrated understanding of racism and discrimination as it pertains to law enforcement, and how bias can influence behaviour and decisions
  • Knowledge of or training in harm reduction, anti-racism, Indigenous awareness and GBA+ would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge and practical application of conflict resolution skills\xcd\xbe analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrate service excellence, embracing diversity and promoting inclusiveness
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate inclusively and respectfully with diverse community members and work inclusively as part of a diverse team
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers\xcd\xbe excellent interpersonal, time management, and customer service skills are required
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to groups
  • Following a successful interview process, candidates must pass a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license (or provincial equivalent) and eligibility to obtain and retain a City Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Permit is required
