Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Who we are:

Income and Social Supports is the single point of access for a range of Human Services programs provided by the Region of Peel, and community-based agencies to help individuals or families cope with life challenges or events.

The Role:

As a member of the Income and Social Supports team, you will be responsible for the development and design of a training program for new and existing staff involved in the delivery of Ontario Works for the provision of uniformed service across the Region. This includes developing, organizing and delivering training programs to meet the needs of all staff and external clients.

What you will do in this role:

  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of government policy, programs, and legislation relevant to Ontario Works and the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services
  • Represents the Region in Partnerships to design and deliver training province-wide
  • Recommends changes to Peel policies and procedures in the Community Access Division
  • Identifies issues and trends regarding current technologies, business practices and programs and legislation and makes recommendations for changes and improvements
  • Represents the Region on inter-governmental committees and acts as an expert providing advice on training material and facilitation
  • Coordinates projects or events that require collaboration with or obtaining consensus from a variety of internal and external resources
  • Develops strategic training programs based on department and interdepartmental objectives
  • Provide information, advice and expertise to all divisional staff and other external government agencies
  • Develops new initiatives to improve quality of service with a focus on fiscal responsibility
  • Plans, designs and coordinates training programs for Community Access staff in the Region of Peel as well as externally throughout the Province
  • Develops training modules to teach the Ontario Works Act, the regulations, policies and procedures for this Act and related acts, and all other procedures related to the delivery of social assistance programs, including ODSP referrals
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures and ensures these standards are incorporated into all training programs
  • In response to legislated changes or other identified needs, conducts the training sessions for all staff or designs and develops training material for Supervisors to use with their staff
  • Responsible for preparing measurement tools and evaluating the effectiveness of all training programs and adjusting programs as required
  • Conducts training needs assessments with all levels of staff
  • Responsible for updating all training material in the event of organizational changes, legislative changes and new policies and procedures
  • Coordinates the supply inventory and issuing of all necessary tools for all staff service
  • Meets with Supervisor on a regular basis to identify training needs and to evaluate existing programs
  • Acts as a consultant for supervisors and manager for policy clarification or interpretation on unique cases
  • Other duties as required
What the role requires:
  • Minimum of a college diploma plus one year formal education in the area of Adult Education combined with 3-5 years experience in the social assistance field and Adult Education is required
  • Extensive knowledge of multiple computer applications, including but not limited to MS Office, CIMS, SAMS, and local applications
  • Extensive knowledge of the Ontario Works Act, MFIPPA, working knowledge of the ODSP Act, Family Responsibility, Legal Aid and all other applicable or proposed relevant legislation, and the ability to explain the same
  • Excellent knowledge of community resources available to Ontario Works participants as this must be incorporated into effective case management training
  • Ability to identify actual training needs, link these needs to the Division\xe2\x80\x99s goals, and plan, design, and deliver programs in response to those needs
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to a vehicle
Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent communication skills including written skills for a variety of audiences at all levels and verbal skills to facilitate and to exchange and provide information as necessary
  • Effective facilitation skills to convey information to both internal and external contacts and the ability to employ a variety of instructional techniques
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills which would include a good listening ability and the skills to handle classroom problems effectively
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to prioritize and manage a variety of different projects and ever-changing priorities within time constraints and deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to technology and business changes on an ongoing basis
  • Ability to work independently

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role you will have the ability to work mostly remote. You will be required to occasionally attend on-site meetings based on operational requirements at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton and 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga worksite. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
