The Superintendent Traffic Maintenance and Operations is responsible for managing the Field Services section of the Traffic Maintenance and Operations Division.
The Superintendent is responsible for:
Leading the Field Services team to safely maintain traffic infrastructure including traffic signals, signs, roadside
protection, and roadway markings
Collecting and utilization available maintenance data to develop and implement preventative and emergency
maintenance programs across the Region
Monitoring industry trends and emerging technologies, establish benchmarks and identify appropriate training
Working in accordance with the provisions of applicable health and safety legislation and all corporate/departmental
policies and procedures
Managing human resources issues including hiring, discipline, and labour relations in a unionized environment
Collaborating with other sections in Traffic Engineering Operations regarding field deployment of new equipment and/or initiatives by providing input and insights from a field durability and system interoperability perspective
Ensuring Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards (O. Reg. 239/02) are always met
Preparing the annual budget submission and monitoring financial commitments and actual spending
Managing the Traffic Engineering and Operations fleet of vehicles and equipment
Managing the Region\'s Sign Shop and Traffic Warehouse/Storeroom Inventory
Working as the primary contact for Traffic Depot facility related issues for the entire Traffic Engineering and Operations
Division
Representing the Traffic Engineering and Operations Division with respect to Emergency Management activities
Qualifications
The successful applicant will possess:
A three-year post-secondary diploma in Civil, Transportation, Electronic Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education in a related field plus directly related experience
Knowledge of the National Electrical Manufactures Association (NEMA) Standards, Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways, Highway Traffic Act, Underground Infrastructure Notification Systems Act, and the Electrical Safety Association (ESA) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA), AASHTO Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH), WHMIS, Ontario Traffic Manual, TAC standards and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
Experience with budget preparation and forecasting
Strong leadership, interpersonal, team building, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
A customer service focus with demonstrated experiencing managing complex interactions with internal and external customers
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
A valid Class \'G\' Ontario Driver\'s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle
Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.), a 309A Certification of Qualification as a Licensed Electrician or an International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Certifications are deemed an assets
