The Traffic Engineering Technician 1 position provides technical support and assistance under the direction of the appropriate supervisor in Detours or Traffic Control and Parking. You will be responsible for the safe movement of all users of the transportation network. Primary duties include:
  • Perform data collection and analysis.
  • Research and identify problems; prepare signage and road marking plans (temporary and permanent) for a variety of interesting internal and external projects, ranging from new subdivisions to new schools.
  • Respond to concerns of the general public, elected officials and other City staff received through 3-1-1, email and telephone. Provide responses in writing (email or technical memorandum) or verbally.
  • Issue permits, review and implementation of parking changes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.





Q ualifications
  • A completed 2 year Technical Engineering diploma and up to 1 year of traffic engineering technician experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience using Geographical Information System (GIS) software and basic proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook).
  • A valid Class 5 Driver\'s License (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending. Reliable access to a personal vehicle for business use is required.
  • Experience using Work Order system and knowledge of traffic engineering will be considered assets.
  • Success in this position requires excellent communication skills, strong customer focus, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work with field crews and in a fast paced environment.
Working Conditions: - Exposure to various weather conditions, heavy traffic and active construction sites. Pre-employment Requirements

Compensation: Pay Grade 8 $35.51 - 47.49 per hour

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day work week
with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.




Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
