Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a diverse, dynamic, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency. We strive to provide quality, wholistic health services by sharing and promoting traditional and western health practices to enable people to live in a more balanced state of well-being. SOAHAC provides services to Indigenous people including those who live on and off reserve, status, non-status, Inuit, and Metis within the Southwest, Waterloo Wellington and Erie St Clair regions. SOAHAC has a mandate of ensuring that health services are accessible, of high quality, and are culturally appropriate. It is SOAHAC's objective to build health care capacity within Indigenous communities. Currently, we are seeking the services of a Traditional Healing Manager to join our interdisciplinary staff team based at our Chippewa Site.



The Traditional Healing Manager leads the delivery and continuous improvement of SOAHAC's Traditional Healing services across all sites. This role ensures culturally safe programs that reflect the diverse traditions and needs of the Indigenous communities we serve. The Manager provides guidance and mentorship to Traditional Healing staff, fosters strong connections with Elders, healers, medicine people, and community partners, and works to integrate Traditional Healing into SOAHAC's wholistic care model. This position champions innovative practices that bridge traditional and western health approaches, while addressing lateral violence and cross-cultural challenges in a respectful, solutions-focused manner.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, and working closely with senior leadership, the Traditional Healing Manager is accountable for program planning, service quality, cultural governance in program delivery, and budget stewardship for the Traditional Healing portfolio.

Responsibilities:

Client Services

Develop and sustain high-quality, culturally safe Traditional Healing services. Enhance client access and experience, aligning with SOAHAC's Integrated Care framework. Monitor outcomes and support data collection to improve quality. Facilitate collaboration with other health providers to integrate Traditional Healing. Address and document client concerns, escalating as appropriate.

Operations

Oversee day-to-day operations of Traditional Healing programs across all sites. Approve and coordinate services, resources, and expenditures within budget. Identify new funding opportunities to expand services. Stay informed of innovative practices and trends in Indigenous health. Represent SOAHAC in community and sector partnerships.

Policy & Program Development

Review and contribute to Traditional Healing policies, procedures, and guidelines. Coordinate SOAHAC's Traditional Healing Committee to foster engagement. Ensure compliance with funder and ministerial reporting.

Mentorship & Coaching

Foster trust, creativity, and collaboration within the team. Mentor Traditional Healing Liaisons, visiting healers, and Elders. Support staff learning and growth plans. Encourage innovation and healthy team dynamics.

Employee Relations

Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of Traditional Healing staff. Provide coaching and feedback to address performance concerns. Lead change management to strengthen program effectiveness and engagement.

Internal Engagement

Participate in leadership and program planning meetings. Collaborate across SOAHAC departments to integrate Traditional Healing into care. Contribute to organizational decisions related to cultural safety and Indigenous knowledge.

Requirements:

Qualifications

Education

University degree in social services, mental health, peace relations, leadership, or a related field (required). Equivalent combination of education and Indigenous traditional knowledge considered.

Experience & Skills

Leadership in program design, delivery, and evaluation within First Nations, Inuit, or Metis communities. Extensive knowledge of Indigenous medicines, healing practices, ceremonies, and teachings. Strong ability to engage Elders, healers, and community members. Experience in cross-sector collaboration, coaching/mentoring, and community-based research. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
