The Supervisor plays a key leadership role within the thrift shop by supporting daily operations, maintaining store standards, and ensuring a safe, positive, and efficient environment for customers, volunteers, and staff. Including responsibilities connected to store operational excellence, team coordination, and community-focused retail service. Supervisors act as the designated leader on duty during scheduled shifts and are expected to run the store independently when required.
Key Responsibilities:
Store Operations & Leadership
Independently open and close the store, including preparation, till setup, float verification, end-of-day cash reconciliation, deposits, and secure lock-up procedures.
Serve as the Leader on Duty (LOD), ensuring smooth daily operations and effective problem-solving.
Monitor store workflow, adjust priorities, and direct staff/volunteers to maintain productivity.
Support the creation and execution of daily and weekly task lists.
Oversee merchandising standards--ensuring the floor is clean, organized, and well-stocked.
Customer & Donor Service
Ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and helpful environment for customers and donors.
Resolve customer concerns or escalations professionally.
Provide support during donation intake, evaluating donations and directing staff or volunteers as needed.
Engage with customers to promote sales, upcoming promotions, and community initiatives.
Training & Onboarding Support | Team Collaboration
Help maintain training checklists.
Onboard new staff with consistent guidance on store routines.
Provide positive leadership to staff and volunteers during shifts.
Offer training, coaching, and guidance on store procedures, customer service, safety, and merchandising.
Maintain strong communication with the Store Manager regarding store needs, staffing concerns, workflow improvements, and donation trends.
Support volunteer engagement by assigning tasks that match their abilities and ensuring they feel valued and included.
Sales & Merchandising Collaboration
Assist in planning and executing sales events, themed displays, and seasonal product turns.
Track donation patterns and help identify pricing or merchandising opportunities.
Support marketing efforts by identifying unique or high-value items for social media or in-store promotions.
Administrative Duties
Ensure accurate till counts, voids, returns, and cash handling procedures.
Complete daily shift notes, communication logs, and any incident or maintenance reports.
Monitor supply levels and report needs to management.
Assist with basic scheduling adjustments when acting as LOD.
Specialized Responsibilities
Health & Safety Coordinator
o Conduct monthly store safety inspections.
o Ensure equipment and environments meet safety standards.
o Maintain incident reports and follow up as needed.
o Assist with training staff and volunteers on safe lifting, backroom processes, and emergency procedures.
Communications & Newsletter Lead
o Gather updates, success stories, product highlights, and store news for monthly or quarterly newsletter.
o Coordinate with management to send updates to volunteers, supporters, community partners, or internal teams.
o Help maintain bulletin boards, signage, and staff communication channels.

Requirement to physically and vigorously move/stand throughout your shift
Occasional work on evenings and weekends as required
Availability Requirements
Must be available for opening and closing shifts on a rotation.
Must be available to work Saturdays (minimum two, eight-hour days per month).
Maintain flexible availability to support operational demands.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
