Job Description


The E. A. Rawlinson Centre is the hub of arts and cultural activities in Prince Albert. It houses both the Mann Art Gallery and the John G. and Olive Diefenbaker Theatre. The facility is owned & operated by the City of Prince Albert. The Mann Art Gallery organization is governed by a separate Board of Directors and membership. The Diefenbaker Theatre is a 600+ seat auditorium with all the latest amenities. It has been embraced by the community, housing over 250 events each year. The Rawlinson Centre presents professional shows whose proceeds are used to subsidize local non-profit groups.

Core Purpose:
To provide technical support to the artists, clients and the community users of the EA Rawlinson Centre of the Performing Arts. The technician will have well-rounded experience in all areas of technical theatre that will meet the requirements of the diverse users of our facility. The position will report to the Production Manager, and work closely with the Head Technician.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Key Event and Program Responsibilities.

  • Work as part of an event crew (technicians and volunteers).
  • Operate live audio console and related audio equipment for a variety of events including mixing concerts, monitors, sound cue playback for theatre and dance events, etc.
  • Operate ETC EOS (or similar) lighting console.
  • Coordinate equipment needs with guest technicians and artists.
  • Assist in all areas of theatre production support including, but not limited to:
o Lighting - Hang, focus, and lighting board operations and maintenance
o Sound - Sound setups, basic mixing, band setups, sound checks
o Flies - Rigging and operation of manual fly system.
o Carpentry - Basic stage carpentry.
o Video - Set up and operations of projection systems.
o Set up, strike and theatre reset as required by each show and event.
  • Provide on the day training, guidance and support to user groups, community members and students using the theatre.
  • Provide orientation on required equipment to volunteers and user groups.
  • Ensure all working areas are well maintained, clean, tidy and organized.
  • Assist the Production Manager with occupational health and safety (OH&S) concerns for all co-workers, volunteers, students and audience members.
  • Work on regular building maintenance duties.
  • Will complete a full walk through of the facility at the end of every performance day and ensure all exterior doors are locked and secure.
  • Setup tables, chairs and other banquet equipment for events in the Centre.
  • Complete any required reports and documentation and obtain necessary signatures from event clients.
  • Offer suggestions and solutions to clients and be clear on the cost of extra items requested.
2. General Duties
  • Attend to all inquiries through personal, telephone, and written communication.
  • Follow acts, regulations, bylaws, agreements, policies and procedures.
  • Follow regulations, acts and policies of Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:

Education, Training, Experience:
  • Diploma related to technical theatre from an accredited institution; or a minimum of five years professional related experience.
  • Minimum of two years professional experience working in a wide range of related production areas including but not limited to sound, lighting and rigging.
  • Fall arrest, Aerial lift training, Standard First Aid, WHMIS training required.
  • Pyrotechnics Certification is an asset.
Key Knowledge, Technical Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to work with live sound; digital live mixing consoles and related audio equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and assist a wide range of performance types including live music, theatre, dance, choirs, variety shows, corporate presentations and lobby events.
  • Ability to work at heights and climb ladders.
  • Capable of safely lifting 50 pounds to head height.
  • Competent working with wood working tools (Mitre saw, table saw, jig saw, circular saw, etc)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience working in Windows and MacOS environments.
  • Ability to read and/or interpret CAD drawings
  • Must be able to work daytime, evenings and weekends.
  • Class 5 driver\'s license.
The current rate of pay for this position is $3815 - 4637/month ($24.29 - 29.52/hour).
