Work Arrangements

The Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts (LLPA) is seeking a qualified PEFA, SET, or THEA instructor to serve as coordinator for the ARTS Department. The position takes effect in October 2023 for an initial one-year term with the possibility of an extension for an additional two years.

There are 2 sections of time release available for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The Role

Reporting to the Dean of LLPA, the ARTS coordinator provides leadership to the PEFA, SET and THEA programs: facilitating the operation, planning and development of these programs; acting as a spokesperson for ARTS faculty members (such as via committees and correspondence); advocating in support of ARTS students; liaising, as needed, with the Music Department and other disciplines within LLPA, as well as other units throughout the College.
Responsibilities

The ARTS coordinator will have the following responsibilities:

  • Schedule and staff PEFA, SET, and THEA classes;
  • Manage enrollment in PEFA, SET, and THEA classes;
  • Collaborate with faculty and the Director of Performing and Fine Arts to offer production contracts to directors and designers;
  • Coordinate the development and approval process for new and revised curriculum;
  • Convene and chair department meetings, attend FEC and DAC meetings, and ensure timely dissemination of related materials;
  • Ensure timely and effective communication within the department and with other programs, College offices, and external organizations (including Program Advisory Committees);
  • Ensure timely processing of transfer credit requests;
  • Represent the ARTS Department\'s needs to the Director of Performing and Fine Arts and other LLPA programs and staff for the shared use of the Performing Arts facilities;
  • Work with faculty and the Director of Performing and Fine Arts to facilitate student recruitment, student intake processes (i.e., coordinating assessments, auditions, intake interviews, etc.), and retention;
  • Oversee the Department\'s budget (i.e., supplies, hospitality and catering, mileage, travel: Per Diems and Meals, general travel and parking, hotels, membership fees, field trips, honoraria, equipment maintenance, etc.);
  • Collaborate with the Director of Performing and Fine Arts and the Stagecraft and Theatre Technician Supervisor to manage the production budget;
  • Advise students about program requirements and pathways;
  • Support colleagues by providing administration and guidance in the application of College policy and best practices, as appropriate.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need

To be eligible to serve as the ARTS Coordinator, the successful candidate must have the following:
  • a Master\'s degree in PEFA, THEA or SET, or equivalent
  • QTT status within the ARTS Department and a minimum of two years of FTE service
  • strong organizational skills, the ability to set and follow through with priorities among competing tasks, and the ability to be detail-oriented, thorough, and fair
  • effective interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills and good judgement
  • a demonstrated ability to work effectively in groups, to assume an effective leadership role and to foster collaboration and co-operation amongst peers
  • a demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • experience making informed decisions within a policy and Collective Agreement framework
  • the ability to maintain a balanced view of both the academic and performance goals and objectives of the Department, and to support and respect the needs and place of each program within the Department as a whole
