Job Posting Halifax Municipality is inviting applications for the casual position of Youth Centre Coordinator for The Den Youth Centre in Parks & Recreation. Under the supervision of the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Youth Centre Coordinator will support operations of The Den Youth Centre in Lower Sackville. The Den offers a range of services and programs for youth to access including; counselling, job support, and mental health support. It is the responsibility of the Youth Centre Worker to create and maintain a supportive environment. The role requires an adaptable and flexible personality, comfortable completing a range of activities including leading activities, connecting youth to support services, and managing the dynamics and behaviors in the space. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in the coordination, and facilitation of drop-in activities.
Provide resource and referral support to youth (both in-house support and external support).
Create and maintain a safe and inclusive space for a diverse set of youth.
Provide orientation to all new youth attending drop-in programs.
Work with the youth and staff during drop-in times to manage dynamics and youth behaviors.
Coordinate, schedule and attend program staff meetings.
Work with community partners / organizations to schedule and advertise their services.
Supervise youth centre drop in staff.
Carryout administrative work by recording information from shift (I.e. reporting incidents, making note of supplies needed, taking count of number of youth in attendance, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience
Post secondary education in a related field or combined education and experience will be considered.
Minimum two (2) years of related work or volunteer experience in a social service environment in a support capacity.
Experience working or volunteering in an environment with at-risk youth (working or volunteering in culturally, racially diverse, and/or low-income communities)
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of youth engagement strategies
Experience in leadership and group facilitation considered an asset
Mental Health First Aid considered an asset
Knowledge of current supports and services available for youth
Knowledge of harm reduction approaches to youth support
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check. Please note \xe2\x80\x93 Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge.
